Hey guy, noob here. I am looking for experienced maker's recommendations on a heat treating book specifically for knife thickness steel. I have found too many to count online, and want some experienced opinions, if possible, before I spend cash on one. One I was considering based on reviews was ASM's Practical Heat treating.
I am a beginner as far as knife making goes, and due to economic concerns, have very little extra money lying around, so with that in mind, does anyone have a list of obvious Dont's for old fashioned heat treating for plain jane knives made out of old files and leaf springs? It's the cheapest stuff I can get to practice grinds and heat treating and tempering and annealing on.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
