New member here.. I've only recently started, doing stock removal and grinding. Have a few finished knives and looking to get them heat treated. Would prefer someone local if at all possible. Haven't had much luck contacting anyone local. My blades are all 1095. Not looking for someone to give me a class, just looking for someone who wouldn't mind treating these for me. Would gladly pay for your trouble. If nothing local, I suppose i could mail them off. The big companies seem to have too long of a lead time and I'm looking for something quicker. Appreciate any help someone could give.

Just a few suggestions for you:
1) Google, "Knifemakers in Kansas City
2) Google "Heat treatment in Kansas City
3) Use the Bladeforums custom search engine in the stickys to search, "Knifemakers in Kansas City" ( this will give you lots of local makers, most of whom are Bladeforums members)

Those will give you a lot of choices to check out.
Also, several fellows in Shop Talk do HT for a very reasonable fee. JT is one of them

Thanks Stacy for the reply. I did google those terms with some good results. Haven't yet found anyone local willing, or able to heat treat these for me. The companies I've contacted, either don't want to do such a small batch, or the cost isn't reasonable. Was hoping to find a knifemaker local to me. Bos and Peters would be fine, but unfortunately, their lead times are a bit longer than I would prefer right now. Had already found a few knifemakers on here that do heat treating, that i'm considering, but just wanted to post and see if anyone local to me could do it. If that fails I will go with one of the out of town guys that i've talked to.

St out of curiosity, why the preference for local? If turnaround time is the issue, the shipping is usually a small factor in that.

Kevin, that may just be me being a little over zealous. Would be nice to just drop them off and pick them up after a short period of time, and not deal with shipping. Always try to support local folks and businesses if I can. Not really a necessity though.

I hear that. Unless you can find another knife maker local, or maybe a small mashine shop that does it, you'll probably be better off shipping them.
