I appalogize for the thread since I'm sure it's been done but I think it needs to be said again.
YOU CAN NOT HEAT TREAT AND HARDEN MILD STEEL BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH CARBON.
I've posted that I own a few Pakistani Damascus knives and for $30 they make great knives to beat the crap out of but they will not hold an edge for more then a few uses before needing sharpend again because they're made with cheap mild steel. Will someone also please explain how CFT can sell custom hand made knives from Damascus steel for $30? I've ask him several times to admit that his knives come unassenbled from Pakistan and he simply slaps them together and calls it handmade. He either doesn't kmow or won't admit that they contain mild steel yet a quit acid test shows that they do.
Can you tell I just talked to him and he pissed me off.

For anyone selling Pakistani knives just say yep and that's why they're $30.
Thanks for the therapy session, I feel much better.

It is sad how the foreign made junk Damascus has infested the market ... makes it hard to know what you are getting unless you buy from the smith... a guy can say he is using xxx Damascus from a reputable source but really be using junk to increase his margins...
Shameful.... and dint get me started on the whole "hand made" tag being slapped on kit knives.... a lesser case of stolen valor in my book.

My guess: they take soda cans and tops, heat it up, and beat the crap out of it:). It's actually pretty sad.
