Hi I have just started with knife making and been thinking of getting a heat treating oven to make things easier any suggestions.

The sizes of my knives are usually 6 to 9 inches long

I have a Sugar Creek oven with the programmable controls. The interior is about 8x10x24" deep. It's been good for my needs. I was confused by the instruction booklet, but a call to Orton, the manufacturer, made it easy. The cost was in the $8xx range.

Sugar Creek is not there any more. They went under around the end of July. USAKnifemaker has an entry level oven without any step controls(like your kitchen oven) for $6XX + ship. This one you have to set to temp with a dial, then set to next temp. I think EvenHeat has the next in line for about $9XX +ship.

Get yourself an Evenheat KF18 with your choice of controllers and life will be good.
