Heat treating pattern welded Damascus - Moved from Custom and handmade knives

That is a fantastic knife, and it leaves me with some questions. I'm just starting trying to make damascus on an anvil. So I figure the large shiny layer is the nickel, and then between the nickel and edge is the W2. So during heat treat would you only treat it like W2?

Thanks Nick and yes the 1095 and 15n20 have a similar enough heat treatment to the W2 to not have an issue while heat treating but you basically treat the blade as W2 since that is the edge material.
