I ordered some 1084 steel from alpha knife supply that has been annealed. Do I still need to normalize it a couple cycles or is it good to go?
Thanks
Josh
It is ready to heat treat as received. Their 1084 is "fine spheroidized". The 1084 from NJSB is usually in the past "coarse spheroidized" and responded better after normalizing/cycling. You can run a few grain refinement thermal cycles if you desire (around 1500°F) and let it air cool on each cycle. But there is no need to normalize it (1600°F-1650°F) unless you plan on forging it.
