Hey all,

Im gonna buy some RWL-34, and I need some help with the heat treating.
I have a heat treating oven, digitally controlled. But i must manually adjust the temp every time.
Since I don't have liquid nitrogen or dry ice, can i still have a decent blade?
Do i need HT foil?

I'd be grateful for any help
Thanks,

JB

At those high hardening temperatures oxidation and decarburization occur rapidly so foil or vacuum or inert atmosphere are necessary .Liquid nitrogen is not necessary but it would give you 1 to 2 points higher hardness. Plate quenching is the easy way to do it .Search this forum for "plate quenching"
