OK, long time lurker, first time poster... Sorry if this sound a little silly...

But is there anything to watch out for, when having an engraved blade/handle sent in for heat treating?

Thanks,
Mike

What do you mean by engraved, just some file work on the handle and blade will not effect H/T on Stainless steel,If you are having some inscription put on the blade may effect it,What kind of steel are you using?

Stan,

I'm still in the planing process of my project ... but my initial plan was to take something like this

whisper_folder_640_wide.png

Whisper Folder by John Greco, in 8670 steel

And have a engraver do something like this to the handles and top of the blade.

Why?

Because I think it would look nice... :)

The handles could be engraved as they dont have to be heattreated. The blade would be another story,I'm no sure if you did it before H/T if it would survive.Maybe some one with more engraaving experiance will chime in.
