Hey everyone so I'm making my first knife right now and I'm using hot rolled steel and I don't know if I need to heat treat that or not. I am thinking about doing it just to be safe but I don't know if the metal will crack or not. So I need help

This should be posted in Showp Talk. It seems like your a little over your head. If it's hot rolled steel from a hardware store or welding supply, you're making a butter knife. It won't harden. Buy a piece of 1084 from Newjerseysteelbaron.com and read all the stickies at the top of shop talk.
