So has anyone got one of these yet? If so what do you think about the quality? I had been thinking about getting one, but the fact that they are made in china really does not sit well for me.

Rev,
A minor point to some, and a MAJOR point to others, this knife is made for us, to our specifications, in Tiawan, not Red China.

The HEAT project has turned out awesome. We are able to provide our customers with a quality assisted opener, housed in an awesome Darrell Ralph design, with good blade steel[AUS8], at a fraction of the cost of our US produced DOMINATOR.

Check out the HEAT, I think you will like it. If you would rather have a US made product, the DOMINATOR is calling you. This way, the chioce is yours

Thanks for the interest!

Thanks for the info Will much appreciated!!! Taiwan I can live with. Ive even made knives from aus-8 Ive bought from Taiwan, no problem there!! I do prefer to have the Dominator over this one. So I did order a Dominator!!! now that I know it is Taiwan, I will keep it in reference! I had called camillus Customer service and was told it was China. Taiwan, in my opinion, is more refined in their cutlery manufacture than the average Chinese made cutlery.

Thanks again!!!

:)

Just got my Heat from Knifeworks. I haven't done any testing, but a quick visual inspection checking fit, finish, lock up, and factory edge showed no problems whatsoever. And unless I am going blind in my advanced age, it comes with bronze washers instead of the nylon washers on the Dominator.

I'll leave the more advanced and esoteric reviews to the experts, but in my book, the Heat and the Dominator are both well worth the prices paid.

I've got a Heat and my personal opinion, you will be hard pressed to find a superior knife in that price range. Heck, even in a higher price bracket this knife will hold it's own. Even with the "inferior" AUS-8 steel that many keyboard metalurgists wouldn't be caught dead with.

It sounds pretty good! I have ordred a Dominator though. I like the s30v much better. Aus-8 is a good basic steel. Ive made many folders with it (very inexpensive to purchase).

Dirk. I always seem to be behind you in buying the Dominator family. So how is the robo action on your Heat compared to the Dominator? :)

I won't pull any punches. I feel the Heat is very much superior to the Dominator. Especially in how the Robo-Assist works. It is easier to open. It openes with much more authority. There is no tweaking needed to get it right. It comes out of the box set to go. Overall the Dominator beats the Heat on two things. Frame lock strength, and a better steel. However, the AUS-8 has an excellent grind and from what I have been told, a very good heat treat. Those two things go a long way in making what some see as a marginal steel in to a solid performer. In any other area you look at, the Heat is by far the better knife.

I know some may not want to hear that. However that is my opinion.

I would be surprised if this doesn't turn out to be Camillus' biggest seller.

Roger of www.knifeworks.com said that the first batch of heat he received just flew out the doors but mine wasnt in the list. The next shipment is due next week, hopefully.

I just got my HEAT. Wow what a knife.Fit and finish is great. Like a razor out of the box. It truly is the poor man's Dominator. At the price point these are going to sell like hotcakes. If you want one you better order now,for the dealers are not going to be able to keep them in stock.
Good Collecting!

I have customers that buy the Heat from me personally. They are selling very strong! I have to say that they have an fit and finish. The lock is fantastic with the fold over design. It is much stronger than a standard liner lock with this addition. The speed on the heat is freaky fast! the knife has bronze washers also. The blade is right down the center.
I am very impressed.

Big Brown brought the HEAT today. My 17y/o son picked it out as his knife for EDC. This thing is HOT. Blade centered, handle has nice grip and feel in the hand, blade very sharp, and opens like a flash. It has a strong solid sound when it flies open and the lock is strong and sure.
Darrel, I really like the fold over lock. After several times opening it my son commented how much he liked the lock. This thing is smoooth and Old Dad is going to get me one tooo. tried to trade my son out of it but....

Dean,
It is great when a good design comes together. The HEAT is one of those designs. I just got a load of Black HEATS yesterday. I sent some out to clients who had them ordered and folks came to my shop to pick them up. WOW! The folks who are getting them are just overwhelmed with the high quality and function of the knife.
I am glad your son got his ;) . Two of my sons snatched theirs. I will have a few on my table at the blade show. Stop around table 11P to shoot the bull!

Ill have a few customs with me also.

I thought this thing was fast when we first got it BBUUTT after my son has worked it alot this thing is lightening fast. It's like it's in overdrive and no slowing down for the curves... :D

Hey Dean,
How is the flipper pressure for opening?

Darrel,

The best way I know to describe the flipper pressure is firm and secure. I have no fear of this thing opening by accedent. The knife opens because you want it to and apply the pressure to make it open. When I say it's firm I don't mean stiff or hard but just nice purposeful firmness if that makes any since. The more I get to play with this thing the quicker I want mine and the more interest I'm getting in the Dominator....

Thats the way we designed the opening on it!
Its nice to feel the good feeling from the folks who have gotten them.

What is the fold-over design?

If you look at the Heat, you will see what looks like a tab on top of the liner lock where you disengage it. That tab is actually bent or folded to form an angle at the point where the lock engages the tang of the blade. Very simple idea, that works very well. Cold Steel uses it on some of their folders, Scimitar is one.

Here are some pictures of the heat with the lock showing and the face of the knife.
The fold over tab was first used by Butch Valloton in the early 90's.
What this does is make the lock super strong and extends the wear life.
The lock on HEAT has thick liners and then the fold over is used.
This fold over is different from any used so far.
It is folded and radiused to fit your thumb for even more strength and great wear properties.
