Here's the usual perfect kothimoda made by Bura. He cures the bone for the handle himself and takes great pains to get this knife right because it's our flagship khukuri and he's the Royal Kami. He did his job well.

Problem is the knife took a serious hit during shipment and although very well packed suffered some damage. The handle has a hairline crack in it which can be epoxied and if clamped I believe the crack will become near invisible.

The scabbard also suffered some damage as you can probably see from the pix. This is Sterling silver and very soft. He you are a handyman you might be able to take the dent out and solder the seam if you are good and very careful.

Outside of the above mentioned damage it's a 10/10 rig.

Take a hundred bucks off for the damage -- delivered to your door for $350 and that's a pretty decent deal for this rig.

Call or email.

Had to read the title a dozen times
before I realized it did NOT say
Heartbreak Blem

This won't last long. The sheath can just be poped back out, while the crack can be sealed with a little epoxy. It's a bargan at -$100.

It's supposed to say heartbreak, not heatbreak. I should have said shipping break.

Oh well......

Heart-break, heat-break, heart-beak, all in all I'd say its a real
"heart-ship" that HI has to take a 100.00 hit for what is the shipping company's fault! Couldn't resist the pun (if you can even call it that!!).:D

Doesn't HI use Fed-Ex or UPS? If so, don't they guarantee items against damage?

It's not cost effective to file a claim. It takes more time than I want to spend on it and then will have to wait for six months if they ever pay at all. Their first resort is to blame Pala's shipping staff for poor packing and we take it from there. It just ain't worth it.

I did the same thing ddean, guess that goes to show how our true feeling runs with Uncle Bill and his beautiful wares, not to mention the kamis who make them.....such a notice does break my heart!

Iss the dent in the sheath so bad that it can't be taken outt with the heat then cold treatment?

That silver is so soft I think you might be able to stick a pencil down into the karda slot and push the dent out -- but I'll let somebody else try this. With my luck I'd probably punch a hole thru the dented area.

I'm taking the price down to a sales oriented figure of $295 -- $155 off regular but that's about as far as I can go and still stay in business. I want to get the knife out of here because every time I look at it I get angry and feel bad, too. When I think about the silver men working two weeks to get that scabbard perfect only to then have it banged up by DHL gives me the ringa$$.

A beautiful gift, or showpiece.

The minimal damage looks easy to

fix up.

Even if it were still perfect

I wonder if I would go quickly?

I have an HI Kothimoda. The pictures do not do them justice. Very beautiful. The damage is minimal and is on the back of the scabbard anyway.

I would buy it in a minute if I did not already have one. $295 is SO reasonable for this. Truly an heirloom and the best there is.

Except for the back of the scabbard and a teeny hairline crack, I think that the one Bill Martino offers should look like this:

"Kothimoda Khukuri
Here it is -- the BirGorkha Kothimoda, best and biggest Kothimoda in the world. This khukuri is made by the Royal Kami and rates a 10 out of 10. The scabbard is done by one of the best gold and silversmiths in the Kathmandu valley and also rates 10 out of 10. Khukuri specs. Weight is 1 lb 11 oz., overall length -- 17.25 inches, width of blade -- 1 & 7/8 wide, blade thickness -- 7/16 inch. The khukuri, a dui chirra, is mounted in silver with water buffalo bone handle. The scabbard takes ten days to make. It is the finest water buffalo calf, natural grain leather to be found. The silver, all 225 grams of it, is .999 pure. Overall, this is one of the finest kothimodas in the world and one of the heaviest silver laden scabbards ever made."

I bet there is someone drooling out there right now who will give the "Heartbreak Blem" a good home.

Come on guys and gals, this is an opportunity! And remember the kami who made it makes them for the king of Nepal. This is an heirloom!!!
