I’m looking for something along the lines of the TM Hunt M-18 or Work Tuff Gear Ares. Just an all round bad ass chopper. Currently, my go to is a Cold Steel San Mai Kukri or CRKT Woods Kangee. I also have a cheap hardware store type axe. All of these work just fine and do what I need them to do. But I just want options lol. Also thinking about Tops High Impact and a Winkler combat axe.

Mostly used for chopping trees and processing for fires. But also random things like smashing up old furniture for disposal etc.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Do you want a knife that can chop, or do you want something that was made to chop?

If you want the latter, then you need this - Tops El Chete:

BF makers Bill Siegle and David Mary are great big blade builders, if you can wait for a run of something from David or stay on the hunt for something from Bill.

I've recently purchased a Work Tuff Kaviaz (2nd run of this particular model) but have not had much occasion to use it this winter. Seems fun and the brand is interesting to me, as they have an obvious emphasis on producing big blades.

The TOPS High Impact is like C-4 explosive on wood. It somewhat bridges that strange gap between a "Sportsman's axe" and a felling axe. However, I don't think you'll be carrying it on your belt or kit. In my humble opinion, it's more of a "truck box" tool...

Like the High Impact, the "El Chete" that Shane recommended is another incredible tool. That being posted, my "Kodiak" has been riding with me more than my El Chete over the last few months...

That Kodiak is awesome!

Who is the maker again?

I can’t zoom in far enough to read the logo.

Thank you.

The Maker is Work Tuff Gear. (*The Designer is "Alex B", of "Aurora Borealis Knives", who is actually a Member here. As best I can tell, Alex had a few runs of his own and then licensed with Vic over at Work Tuff)

If you are leaning towards an axe/'hawk, then I would whole-heartedly recommend the American Tomahawk Model 1.

ATC is now owned by RMJ, and no one on this forum would dispute that Ryan knows how to build a tomahawk.
ATC Model 1 is a great tool but I think the Model 2 might be a moderately better chopper.

For a knife - I suspect they're going close to 1K these days but the CPK HDMC / Behemoth / Behemother are all some of the most ergonomically sound, well-heat-treated cutting beasts you can find, really a cut above just about anything in the production knife realm.

As mentioned above the SP-53 is a best bang for the buck option.
I used to say the Parangatang was, but now it's discontinued, still amazing if you can find one
Also true of the SYKCO 1311. It's the best Busse brand chopper, and Many people's grail.
