I was wondering, how come, seemingly, so many of the folders that are supposed to be extremely heavy-duty, tank like, etc. have Titanium frame locks as opposed to steel locks? I'm talking about folders like the Crusader Forges, Medford Praetorian, Grayman Satu, Strider SMF/SNG, Zero Tolerance 0300, Dalibor folders (I think.), Direware folders, etc.
These folders look like they were designed just to be heavy duty folders, so why do none of them have steel frame locks? The lock is, arguably, the most important aspect of a heavy duty folder. Titanium is lighter than steel, but when it comes to heavy duty folders, weight isn't a big deal -- at least not the weight difference between a titanium and a steel frame lock, right? And wouldn't a steel frame be a lot stronger than a titanium frame? So, how come they don't use basic steel for the lock, or even some fancy steel? (Keep in mind, I'm just talking about the extreme-heavy duty, tank-like folders here.)
Say the frame is 3mm thick, 2.5 cm wide, 12 cm long (Or, around 8 cm for the lockbar.), according to a Metal Weight Calculator:
STEEL
12 cm lockbar/liner: 0.1557 lbs (70 grams.)
8 cm lockbar/liner: 0.1038 lbs (47 grams.)
TITANIUM
12 cm lockbar/liner: 0.0895 lbs (40 grams.)
8 cm lockbar/liner: 0.0597 lbs (27 grams.)
