Well, The ZT 0300 is a tank, the 0350 is manageable. I have both and really only carry the 0350. It just the perfect size and weight for me.

i have never felt the 300 but i have seen vids on youtube talking about it. I generally like big knives, i currently edc a cold steel xl voyager but i wanted something that wouldn't totally scare the crap out of people

Three Sisters Forge Beast or Gorgon, Grayman Dua, DPx HEST Triple Black. All stout knives.

The Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter folder. It is superb. Best ergo's of any folder I've handled bar none. Very good quality steel. Excellent grind lines and fit and finish. Big enough for any cutting task using a folder and big enough and stout enough for some cutting chores not meant for a folder. I am wondering if Andrew Demko may have shot himself in the foot having let CS have there contractor produce such a knife. I may have found the folder I have been looking for. keepem sharp

Cold Steel Recon 1 or the Code 4 in the new XHP steel. Tough knives you won't be afraid to use.

I'm sure Cold Steel has something that would fit your needs. I can only speak about a ZT301. Once you have the pivot tuned in with the Speed Safe AO it at makes a Thwack when you open it. Everybody looks to see what you have in hand.

I just ordered a Delica for EDC and I think this will be along some time soon as well for hiking/bumming around outdoors kind of things. With Cold Steel now using high quality steels, I think the big three just got a lot more competition. The Delica was cheap enough, but all of the other Spydercos I like are in the $200+ range and I just flat out, plain, don't think they're worth it when I can now buy XHP and a Demko Tri-Ad lock in a $100 package. Good luck with your search.

Consider what you need to cut. Realize that marketing about ” heavy duty overbuilt hard use” knives is marketing and doesn't equal performance. I suggest getting a knife designed to cut things well instead of a pocket brick.

What will you be doing with a heavy duty folder? Maybe a pocket fixed blade will serve you better?

Good point. I have a 350 that I deassisted and I like it. But it is heavy for its size and I don t believe that weight and strength for cutting jobs correlate well. I believe that Cold Steel with the new steel makes some very attractive strong knives which are relatively light.

ZT knives cut well. The size works well when you need weight in a knife.

IMO fixed blades always triumph folders. But in my area you can't conceal a 2 1/2 inch fixed. But you can a 3 1/2 folder??? Reasons don't make sense but I like heavy duty folders but I have many different knives for different uses

If I were looking for a heavy-duty EDC folder, I'd go with a Recon 1 in CTS-XHP - it's less than half as expensive, weighs less, and has thinner blade stock than most comparable ZTs, with a full-size 4 inch blade. It's using a more wear-resistant steel and is again much less expensive than most comparable Emersons, at a similar weight.

But if you decide that pleasurably smooth and fun to flick actions, sweet fit & finish, and brand name prestige matter more than cost effectiveness, comfort and strength, then Cold Steel is probably not a good choice for you.

ZT 550 . If you want to spend 150 if not the manix2 those are the two best knives for the money you pay . IMHO

Warning! The following post contains knife philosophy, and personal opinions

Yes to thick lockbars and thick blades making for a mechanically stronger knife, but in my opinion, "overbuilt" is more about how the knife feels.

A knife with substantial weight (for it's size), and solid lockup will feel more sturdy, more "overbuilt" than the exact same knife with even just a little wobble in the lock, or less weight than it seems like it should have.

Oh yes. How about an Extrema Ratio RAO?

Even comes with a secondary lock pin for when you want to chop some wood.

All of these type of posts should begin with "following is an average day in the life of my knife................".

Im gonna be that guy and say Emerson. Expensive but simple. There are stronger, nicer, more overbuilt folders, but thats why The Lord invented fixed blades. Give one a try. If you find one you like, it becomes hard to put down. They got their own vibe.

That ZT is sweet tho. Currently on my "to get" list. Cold Steel if you're on a budget.
