Heavy Duty Wilderness Knife

Go with the Fehrman. Beautiful, stays sharp a long time and cuts really well. I have the FS and a Peace Maker. Out in the woods, I get a lot more use out of the Peace Maker. I want to get a few more of his blades...Maybe the Scout next.

Good luck in your decision,

S.

If you got the dough the tom brown tracker by tops is a great camping/survival knife.dispite the fact that no one seems to know how to use the saw.Mine came with an instruction manual so the secrets of the saw are now known to me.hehehe :p

That is one of the worst knives I had used in almost every respect. -Cliff

Cliff, I was wondering if you have done a review of this blade that I might be able to have a look at...

I have had a project II for a couple of years now and I can say it is a solid knife. Takes an edge and holds an edge. The supplied sheath is well made and sits easy on your hip. The leather is tough and well crafted. Probably one of the best blades you can buy in that price range. The hollow handle is also a nice feature. Mine is made out of A2, but I think CPM S30V is what Chris Reeve is using for the newer knives. I have never used a Fehrman, but they do look and feel like a quality product.

The fallkniven A2 or Northern Lights 1,2 or 3 models are another good choice. They are a little rarer and have an excellent pedigree and reputation.

I am wanting to buy a quality knife for wilderness camping. I want a heavy duty knife with a 7-7.5" blade. I am looking at the Fehrman First Strike and the Chris Reeve Project I or II. The Busse and Swamp Rat knives do not interest me. Are there any other semi production knives I should be looking at? Which one would you pick between the Fehrman and the Chris Reeve?

Thanks, Mike

You would be best off with the RD7. A swamp rat would be the best, but unless you have 4 months to wait...

BTW, there is an RD7 right now in one of the trade forums, you might want to check it out.
