Heavy Heart in a Spec-Ops

I finally got time to fit the kydex liner in my Spec-Ops Survival Sheath for the Heavy Heart. The fit was too tight without some cutting work though - there's just not enough room inside the Spec-Ops sheath for the blade and the full liner. At least not in mine; maybe in others that are stitched a touch looser.

I cut the side (for the spine) out of the liner with a small saw blade on my Proxxon (like a dremmel but better). Next was to heat it up with a heat gun and thin it a bit where the edge would go - otherwise it still takes up too much room in the sheath and makes for a too-tight fit. Finally, a bit more taken off the cut side with a craft knife and it fit just right.

Only issue left is to fix the liner into the sheath again. The blade now projects into the fixing hole and touches the screw, so, can't use the screw. Not that I'm worried about damaging the blade, more worried about cutting the screw in half!

I've not decided yet whether to tie some paracord through the hole and around the bottom of the sheath through the webbing loop, or use some glue. The glue is more permanent of course, but would be much neater. I like neat. Hmmm... decisions, decisions...

Edit: Liner fixation now solved, on page 2.

Anyway, here's some pics:

Good job!

Para-cord or zip-tie should work for securing the insert.

Best regards,

Man, that looks really good. I would have never guessed you could stuff all that INFI inside a spec-ops.

Nice work.

I remember mymindisamob doing that as well. I don't know if he cut the liner or just stretched the liner, but it seems like it was the latter.

Nice job . You can always put the liner in boiling water and form fit it to the knife with out cutting . I always use some clear tubing on the base screw when I replace it .

Great job! :)

I did the same thing to fit my HOGFSH in a spec ops. I had to cut open the entire spine side of the liner, and re-shape the edge side into a wedge. Your liner looks much cleaner than mine

Good solution. Good for you!
I did stretch my kydex for the HH, but it took patience I never knew I had until that point.

Nicely done! I used a heat gun to fit the kydex in my sheath to my Hell Razor and cut a groove for the hilt. Totally eliminated any rattle and she's snug in her rug! :D

excellently done and a great set up for it! a well loved Heavy Heart is a Happy Heavy Heart!:D

Do you have a soldering gun? Drill or melt a hole offset and down from the blade - where the blade isn't in the liner - more towards the tip of the liner, and lower.

Once that's done, run a piece of 550 through it and through the sheath proper, securing it in place. As it is now, you run the risk of removing the liner with the blade.

Yes, the liner does come out a bit when I tug the knife out, as the blade is quite a tight fit in it.

Putting another hole in sounds a good idea. The liner's hole sits a little lower than the hole in the sheath, so even if I lace through there the liner will still be able to move up enough to be a nuisance.

I've gone off the glue idea as I would like to be able to remove the liner for washing, should it get full of mud.

I'll try with paracord through a new hole, but have a feeling that I'll put the original bolt in the new hole as that will hold it good and tight. It will also protect the hole in the nylon from being damaged.

Thanks Spark!

Nice knife, nice work on modifying the sheath. Good work all round. Now if I can only get a HH I can have a go at the same.
