Helle Folders

I own a few Helle fixed blades, but up until recently I never gave their folders a second thought. I ordered the Fleja and was very surprised and impressed with it. Very stout, it's almost like a fixed blade that folds. Very sharp, triple laminated with carbon core, and a gorgeous Scandi grind. 3.35 inch blade. It feels great in my hand. Full stainless liners and a very solid back lock. The craftsmanship is near flawless. The edges of the liner were quite sharp, so I knocked them down gently with a diamond file. Other than that. Zero issues.

So I just had to have another, so I got the small one, the Kletten. Again, very solid knife. A very comfortable 3 finger grip with my pinky resting on the butt of the scales. Nice thick scales with a great swell in the middle. It handles great. The blade is also triple laminate with carbon core. 2.17 inch blade. Quite thick at the spine. With the Scandi grind, it will be a great whittler. and pocketable camp knife. It's a small knife that doesn't feel small in the hand.

So of course I had to get another. I got the Nipa. 2.75 inches of 12C27 stainless steel. It falls right in the middle between the Bleja and the Kletten, and it has a reversible pocket clip. I get a full four ginger grip, and it has a nice palm swell.

The quality on all 3 is really nice. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, considering now nice my Temagami, Mandra and Utvaer fixed blades are. They are hell bent for stout, and should last beyond my days. I don't see much about them, so I thought I'd share

Nice, I love birch handles.

As you can see in this photo, the large one has nice, proportionate scales . See how the smaller ones also have thick scales? It's what makes them solid in the hand, and it gives a confident grip. That's about the best
I can describe them. If you put one in your hand, you will understand what I mean.

I like the look, and own a few Helle fixed blades my self, but I don’t like how the grind/edge continues into the handle, and no sharpening choil.

Since you own three of them, and have handled them a bit, what do you think about sharpening them when the time comes, can you sharpen them all the way to the handle?

I guess when it comes time to sharpen, I have a few smallish stones that have pretty sharp edges. I'd use them to get right up to the edge. Probably tape off the front of the handle.

Here's a review of the small one, the Kletten. The guy babbles on a bit, but it does show the knife up close. Putting a lanyard like the one in my pics really does give my pinky some security.
