Howdy folks-

I've found that no matter how much I want to love various convex blades I've got, nothing whatsoever touches the efficiency and smoothness of a scandi. So I've got more than a few top-notch blades to choose from already, but I'm an addict. Preaching to the choir...

So most know I've got a thing for beefy, round handles. Several Helle knives have caught my eye more than once over the years but I've never pulled the trigger. The Eggen and Symfoni are particularly attractive.

Can anyone describe those to me based on something else for comparison, like the mora 510 or 2000? How thick and hand filling are they? Comfy during extended cutting sessions?

As always, pics are a plus. :D

Thanks guys-

I have handled most of the current production line...they feel wonderful in hand. You will love them.

I just have one Helle left although i have had many. My keeper was the big ten inch blade, Lapland, It has a BIG beefy handle, for large hands for sure.

If you like the hand filling Skandi's, have you ordered a SBT yet?? Over a year wait though, but if you change your mind, no problem, I'll take your spot..... :)

I used a Helle fellkniven for a couple of years and regret selling it. It was probably one of the most comfortable knives I have owned for extended use.

I had a Futura, the handle was too wide for me. It was about 7/8" thick and 1.5 inches wide. I think that one would fit the bill nicely for you.

Big handles are necessary in cold climates when you are often wearing gloves -- field dressing caribou in -45 temperatures for example (did that up in the Yukona few years back). The Helle Eggen is a good example, along with Roselli's erapukko.

Good question, Spooky. I like the thicker handles too. Can anyone post pics (maybe some in-hand) before I buy one?

the folkekniven apears to have an even thicker handle. looks better too, IMO. not to mention it is only like $45.

My Futura feels great to my hand (medium-size, long fingers), especially with gloves on, but the tang is soft enough that the blade bends easily. That turns me off slightly, but I may have a defective one.
