Helle knife company opinions.

my dad gave me his old one. once i cleaned up the drywall putty and other crap off it i saw the company info etched into the blade. having never heard of them, i googled them and sent a pic. they got back to me right away, and here's the gist of what they told me: it's a Helle Sports Knife No.15. Handle of rosewood with silver nickel fittings. Blade of laminated stainless steel. Leather sheath. This knife is no longer in our production, about 40-50 years old.

Helle has a lot of good looking traditional Skandinavian knives and I have a couple of them. I personally like the laminated steel best. Having said this, there are also a few drawbacks. First of all, almost all knives have a hidden tang and the part where the blade comes out of the handle is prone to collect dirt, blood and fish slim and is for sure not hygenic. Second, the knives are nowadays overprised. You can get a Fällkniven F1 or a Cold Steel Master Hunter for a similar price tag. I hate it to say, but I do not believe that any Helle knife could outperform the Mora Bushcraft Orange or the Mora Bushcraft Survival in the practical application. These Mora knives a very ergonomic, incredible sharp, hygenic, light, easy to sharpen and very reasonable priced. They are hard to beat. Buy a Mora Bushcraft Orange, you will not regret it!

I have a harding and love it, useful, pretty with a great sheath, love the retaining stud

Also have a lapplander and have used it as a light machete hiking, clearing blackberry vines and branches on overgrown trails, knocked a lot of heads/tails off salmon and the wide blade makes cutting them into steaks easy. Great medium to large blade

I have a Helle Temagami. I carried it lots last year. Great knife, came very very sharp! Holds an edge nicely and has amazing ergonomics. Very light weight too. Its an all around great knife. Good for camping, bushcraft and hunting/skinning knife!

I have a Helle Futura. Attractive knife, very sharp, most comfortable handle of my knives.

The Futura is outstanding. Very light, and easy to use/carry. I sprang for the pricey Dokka, and have found it to be a great light duty knife (just haven't put it to any heavy duty use or exposed it to prolonged bad weather.) I really enjoy the wooden handles--great feel and nice ergos. I try to keep a little oil on the handles to keep them in good shape.

Love 'em

The Nying (bottom one) is my favourite; love the look, great ergos, super sharp, and the sheath is a work of art.

Mine is the "Millstone" model. The stone is entirely decorative or course, but I appreciate it for the novelty and uniqueness. I've also purchased the Symphoni as a gift and wouldn't mind having one for myself.
