Hopefully I'm posting this in the right area, anyways down to business. I'm looking at getting a Helle knife, I think there beautiful knives but I'm a little concerned about quality. I've heard that there not the toughest knives and I want something I'm going to be able to use, so does anyone have any thoughts on this brand?

I've a few Helle knives and think they are great. I especially like the laminated stainless. Most of their blades are not a thick as many Nordic knives, so not for prying or batoning (which I've never had a need to do). The Viking is their heavy duty blade (have one). Remember most Nordic knives require (or cut best) with a "scandi grind" and a tiny micro-bevel.

Yeah I don't really need it for real hard stuff, and I do love the laminated steel. I think I'll bite the bullet and get one after Christmas.

They are nice knives-maybe a little too good looking :). Most aren't full tang, and that would probably be what some are referring to when they say they aren't the toughest. They are not 1/4" solid steel either. However those of the Scandinavian countries have been using knives like these forever for their tasks.
On the plus side they are fairly light to carry.

Hi, I have the Eggen for several years. Laminated blade. Very sharp and holds a good edge. Only had to strop it. Good for camp chores of all sorts.

Sheath does not not stand up to time. The lacing jut fell apart after about 6 or 7 years.

Very glad I bought this knife.

I really do not understand; has the OP done ANY research. This brand has been talked about over and over; it is VERY well known. There are reviews all over the place. This forum is a fount of info for all, but PLEASE do some research on your own and don't come in and ask "are Kershaw knives any good?" I know this sounds mean and cranky, but I am tired of people (forgive me please if I am wrong about you Knife freaky) just lazing in with requests for info that is available all over the place. :grumpy:

I have done a lot of research into this brand on this website and others. But sometimes it's just good to have a fresh conversation on something. No one forced you to reply and you didn't even give an opinion you just came in here to stir up the pot!
