A picture I took of my Helle Lappland "samekniv" some time ago
Im no photographert but I think tis came out good.
Great and affordable knife!
Just signed up and tought I'd share :)

Welcome Ingo. Very nice Helle you have there. I'm a big fan of the brand, especially the laminated steel models.

Very nice looking knife, Ingo!! Welcome!! What is the overall length on your knife?

What a great looking knife Ingo have been meaning to take a closer look at Helle for a while now.

nice picture of a great knife, picked up a helle in a trade recently and was very impressed.

thanks for sharing!

Looks very nice! Thanks for showing it.
I have always wanted to try a laminated Helle blade.

Thanks you guys for the warm welcome!
The overall length on it is 34cm (13.3) inches.
Its actually not a laminated blade on this one (it's 12C27 stainless steel), as these knives don't have that traditionally.
Almost all of Helle's other knives are laminated though.
The blade is surprisingly thin witch makes the knife very balanced despite the length.
As a Norwegian I've been using Helle's most of my life, and they're fantastic knives!
Would recommend to all :) Is there any importers in the states?

I've been wanting to check out a Helle knife as well but just haven't pulled the trigger, but your post may have pushed me over the edge. Although it isn't the traditional blade type I don't think, I'd probably go for laminated as well.

I love a good Samekniv. They are the best of the big blades in my mind, and great for our boreal environment....not to mention the size of trees we are likely to fell here ;)

Here is my 9" Knivsmed Strömeng 'Old Fashioned' last winter:

I've been eye balling these on and off for probably a year now. The only thing I don't get is why does the sheath cover almost the entire handle? it seems it would make retrieval of the blade from the sheath more difficult then it needs to be.

It also makes sure the knife doesn't fall out. They could add keeper straps but that's just complicating the setup unnecessarily.

Doesn't offer that much to grab on. That has to be less than an inch of handle showing.

Simple, cool and easy setup. Got to try it, you'll love it. Belt carry, neck carry, bag carry, it all works. It's perfect for a working knife. I wish all my fixed blades had this sheath as an option. And the Helle Leukku is the best overall quality available of this type as far as I know. I love mine. Very efficient at cutting branches despite the light weight. The stubby handle is something to get accustomed to. Special, but once you're comfortable with it, it really delivers.

scruffuk: That old fashioned look is super cool. Strømeng are a more traditional knife, but have you seen the one with finger guard they made for the norwegian military? The saami call it "søringsperra"
(southenerguard) :)

KYenglish: That fossekallen is beautiful. Love the sheet. Very classic norwegian style blade

I.N.F.K: I guess for the Saami people in the north it was more important to not lose your knife as it could mean your life!
But i agree that a more "modern" sheath would bee more practical. You need two hands to draw with the high-top design. I've actually been thinking about making a sheath with a strap-lock for it.

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking knife. Never owned a Helle before, so I don't know much about them. I just might have to make one the next knife on my list.
