Helle - now I know what "sharp" is . . .

I really want a jubillium ,it is a homage to the classic skandi Cold Steel copied for their Sisu
but 1é4 the price and nicer.
I have a Skookum with a skandi edge but no real skandi knife with a traditional handle yet.
I might go all out and get a nice Rosseli UHC blade and make a handle with some elk horn and birch bark I have. That is how a lot of people in skandinavia did their knives. Bought the blade and made the handle and sheath over the long winter.

Sounds good. I think the Helle Jubileum is about as good as it gets. Putting your own handle on a scandi blade would be a very rewarding project. Your'e right, the long winter would pass quickly with a good hobby to keep you busy.

I have the Harding. It takes a scary sharp edge!

It's also very pretty, but the one thing that bugs me about it is the poor fit of the bolster (or is it poor shaping of the blade/tang?). There is a small gap between the top and bottom of the blade and the bolster. It's a minor thing, but my eye goes right to it when I pick up the knife.

Stay sharp,

I have been eyeing the futura for a while, just sold my swamp warden so this could be a good replacement.

Got a Helle Skarping (out of current production) and it's one of the finest knives and best workers that I have. Also has a beautiful Artic Curly Birch handle that really fills my hand when hands are stiff and cold (read Whitetail season).Hard to find a better outdoors knife.

I took the Futura out in the woods today. I easily made a pile of curls and then tried to light them with a firesteel and a cotton ball. I couldn't get the spine to throw decent sparks off the firesteel, even though it is flat. I did manage to cut my thumb just behind the nail though, as I scraped the firesteel. I barely touched the blade to my thumb, barely felt anything, but managed to get good and bloody - boy is that knife sharp!

I also managed to scratch it up a bit on the firesteel.:( Oh well, I intend it as a user like my other knives.

It's a cool knife and great slicer, but too bad it doesn't throw sparks well.
