Anybody have any experience or heard of Helle knock offs?

I purchased a Temagami via Amazon.com. I got it from they're used like new section for $100. I was happy with the purchase. Recently, I've been watching some videos and looking at some pictures of the Temagami. I noticed that the etching on my knife is considerably shallower and harder to see than the others in the pics and vids. I never really took notice of this before. The packaging and sheath it came with were spot on. But something still has me wondering.

I feel bad, I had a couple of trade threads with the Temagami that I closed till this issue is cleared.

I'm fully aware that if someone makes something desirable, then some will always make a fake. I'm asking if anyone has heard of fakes or if someone actually has experience with Helle knock offs?

Joe how is the steel? Does it hold an edge and get crazy sharp? I have a Helle NyFjording in laminated stainless. It is very sharp and holds an edge quite well. I would assume that a knockoff wouldn't have the same quality stainless or carbon steel that Helle uses.

I have not previously heard of any fakes.
Any pics?

Here is a pic of the etch on mine.

I would think that because of the materials used and design that it would not be easy to duplicate inexpensively. I am no expert on fakes, but as Brian said, some pics would help.

The blade is laminated or at least it appears to be (it's two toned at the cutting portion of the blade). It does get wicked sharp and holds a pretty good edge. I did stain the handle. I couldn't decide on a Kellam or Helle so I purchased a Helle and tried to modify the handle to look like a Kellam. Here is some pics. Sorry for the quality, a good photographer is something I'm not.

I would be very surprised if that were a counterfeit. Etchings can vary a bit from knife to knife, so I don't think that's a red flag on its own. The knife looks legit to me, and having the correct sheath and packaging is further evidence of that.

I'm no expert, but if I were a scumbag counterfeiter, I probably wouldn't waste time faking these anyway. With the knife, sheath and packaging, they just don't seem popular enough to be worth the trouble. Just my opinion.

True. But a fake is rarely a duplicate.

As or the OP's question, you could ask Helle. It should have an interest in clearing up any questions. post@helle.no

I really don't think it is a knockoff either. It's just that I'm thinking of selling it and the last thing I want is for one of my feedback scores to say, "Knife was not genuine. Duder sold me a knock off...". I guess I'm stuck with it.

I really doubt that a knockoff would have laminated steel. Looks good to me, but if it still bothers you....
Ship it to me, I'll be glad to melt it down for ya :D

Maybe the flats were polished by the previous owner and that dulled the etch. I recall seeing a used one for sale with that treatment.
