Hi All,

I am a relative newbie to the addiction, although I've always had a knife in my pocket. I have ordered some new knives from bladehq, which I am going to post in another thread, but one in particular makes me a bit worried:

Is this lockup ok?

ETA: it seems solid, no wiggle and I tried pushing on the blade down and couldnt get it to slip, but a slight force to the left with a thumb and it's unlocked

Thank you!

Unfortunately, some people would kill for that lock up, and others would jump down said persons throat for saying so.

Personally, it isn't the worst I have seen, but I would prefer a little more.
-Is the knife new?
-Have you given it a chance to break in?
-Can you force the lock to engage further?
》If so, does that induce a sticky feeling lock disengagement?

I'm one that would say it's fine, and you've got plenty of room to wear in. What knife is it?

Mike

Welcome,

What kind of knife is that? It seems a little early. On most of my Liner Locks, the lockbar contacts the blade 100%. Most frame locks it is less than 50%. Yours looks like a thick liner lock, so it would be more like a frame lock.

I'd say it's fine. Early lockup isn't necessarily a bad thing. From what I see in the pic it's nothing I would worry over.

I have several like that and as long as the blade is stable and you've 'tested' it a bit, there's no reason to worry. Most likely over time and a bit of break-in, the liner will travel a bit and seat comfortably.

A few of my Emersons arrived with early lockup and have done fine. Once they are broken in I never give it a thought. In ways I prefer it.

It's a Kizer in S35VN with titanium liners and no, I can't force it any further. The knife is brand new

Thank you for your replies!

The early lock up is fine, I have Hinderers that have early lock up.
To give you an idea about the lock bar settling over a bit, here's two identical Kershaw Random Task II. The one on the left is brand new, never used. The one on the right has been carried and used.

Do you have a better shot of the contact on the tang? In the pic in the op it looks like there's a notch in the lock face on the tang, could be a shadow.

Is it just me or does it look like a good portion of the lock is in front of the knife and not engaging?

Thanks, it must have been a shadow, I wouldn't worry about the lock up, is fine, I'd rather it was a little early than late, you can always adjust early, can't really come back from late.

Thank you, guys, this knife is a gift and I would want a problem there. It's a great little knife
