Hi folks, found this forum when trying to find some info on a knife I have. It was given to me by my grandmother after my grandpa died, used to be his knife. I have no clue how old it is, but I would assume its been around for a while. Any info and or an estimate to its value (not that I want to sell it, just out of curiosity) would be appreciated.

The base of the blade by the hilt says 'Imperial Prov R.I. U.S.A.' with a little crown over the ia in Imperial. The top of the blade says 'Sportsmaster' with a triangle looking etching with 'Tungsten Carbide Edge' in it. Again, any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your knife was made circa 1965-67. Albert Baer used the process on several patterns of Schrade knives beginning in 1967, but the "everlast edge" didn't prove to be a very popular feature so it was discontinued after only a few years.

Value? Someone who was looking for this inexpensive pattern (The Sportsman" pattern from Imperial sold for just a few dollars retail) might give more for yours with the "everlast edge" than for a standard example which might sell for $15-$35 if near perfect condition.

As with all of the knives with the tungsten carbide coatings, it isn't a real common knife to come across.

Thanks guys, perfect. Just what I was looking for. The old ad is cool too!

Back on the shelf with my other 'collectibles' it goes. :)

They do still work as good as they ever did. Thousands of youngsters had these as their first hunting knives. A few of us oldsters have them still. I have one with a set of fishing pliars in the outside pocket of the sheath, another with a Kamp King knife, and a few more of them of varying ages.

I have an HS-6 with no scaler on back of blade but otherwise the same. Cool knife! The dating was very helpful. Cheers! D.

Its been on my shelf for a couple years now and I took it down because it was the closest sharp thing I had to open a shipping box. Having it in my hand again is what made me start wondering about it and post. I will say its very very sharp and still works well.
