Well, big big month - married, became an uncle and now my wife just finished up negotiations with her company that will be bringing us from Manhattan to Scottsdale, AZ in the beginning of September :eek::eek:

I've always lived in the Northeast - been in NYC for the past 9 years - but pretty friggin excited to live in a new part of the country - especially once as markedly different. I'll miss the food here in NYC and I'm worried I'll miss the forest and mountains, but... I'm sure I'll soon see the beauty of the desert and I know the forests and mountains are only a few hours away...

The killer is that I just bought my grail brush gun - a Marlin 1895sbl in .45-70 - been hunting this guide gun down since 2009 and I'm hoping I can find a place for it hunting in AZ. I've heard the firearm laws are so lax in AZ that I can probably just strap it to my back when I go grocery shopping :D:D;) Should be here in about a week!

Well - apologies for rambling - I know there are a bunch of you guys from AZ - what the heck am I in for??? :D

If any of you are from the Phoenix area and can shoot me PM, I'd appreciate it - know I'll need some guidance on basic stuff regarding moving and the lay of the land - we have some distant cousins in the area, but other than that are flying blind!

Thanks and here is some NEW Busse content that just arrived today :D

The northeast is nice! Green, Lush, and a great place to go outdoors.Arizona is different!!! First and Foremost we are Dry. We have High Desert, Mountains(past 12,000 Ft.), Low desert, Plateaus. You can get to Flagstaff from Scotsdale usually in under two hours(depends where you are at in scottsdale. Flag is at around 7,000ft in elevation. It is home to the Four Tallest Mountains in Arizona. Alpine is also a great place to visit, even though it was just invoved in the worst forest fire in Arizona's history. You can find all types of Game here ranging from Mountain Lions, Jaguarundis, Bear, Elk, deer(whitetail,Mulies, and coues), Squirel, Antelope, Coatis, Coyotes, and quite a few others . I got an elk outside of flag in 2007. Scottsdale is on the east part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Where I live is Glendale and it is on the west side of town. Some people Call Scottsdale "Snotsdale" because it is considered the Nicer Suburb of Phoenix. Don't mind them, It is a great Area. Close to Four Peaks(7,000 ft. about) and by Horseshoe lake and Roosevelt Lake.

Dude, you are gonna love the weather in AZ, it is wonderful, shirt sleeves in January, you got Dave, Will York and a whole bunch of great Hogs and Hogettes, Robin is right there in AZ as well, Cabela's right close by and some of the best hunting in the world is in Northern AZ, oh yea did I say that you can buy liquor in Costco, Sams and Walmart.

The interstate traffic sucks, but I am sure that you are accustom to that in NYC...

I'm not a Hog but I'm a Zonie Beckerhead, which ought to count for something. Feel free to email me any questions you have. I live in an area of s/e Phoenix called Ahwatukee and have a weekend place in Flagstaff, so I'm fairly familiar with both areas. Not much of a sportsman but I'm a major hiker/camper, so I can definitely suggest places to get your boots dirty.

Pretty sure you'll need a CCW permit to actually carry any of your Busses around...

Well, you are certainly welcome here! I think you'll find it MUCH different than NY, but there really is something for everyone here.

I'm in Payson, just below the Mogollon Rim. 5200 feet. Hot but not as bad as the Valley, and no stranger to cold and snow in the winter. Plenty of places to play, although in the summer everyone from the Valley comes here to cool off, so not as fun for us locals. Still, the Valley has everything you could want from a city.

Hunting in AZ is a matter of getting drawn for big game, but there are many opportunities. I pack an old Remington 660 in .308 and have found that adequate for just about anything, retaining the compact factor. Everyone has their favorite choice! ;) (BTW, a .45 is considered adequate at the grocery store!:p)

So welcome! I hope you find happiness here!

Welcome to AZ :thumbup: There is so much to do here, and the weather is beautiful all year round:thumbup:
This is our worst time of the year, and I was boating and swimming yesterday:D.
I like the Bradshaw Mountains near the Crown King area, in the summer, to get away from the heat.

Hmm.

I was born a backwoods, redneck, California farm-boy deep in the Central Valley and far from the cities. My stomping ground included western Nevada and Arizona. Arizona is a wonderful place to visit and an even better place to live. You're going to do just fine.

Do say "hi" to Azshaman when you see her. Definitely one of my very favorite people.

Oh. And if you really can carry a .45 to market, please do ... then tell me you've done it. I want to keep that mental image in my mind.

You see -- I live near DC.

Harry,
Glad to see that you are coming down here. Phoenix is a bit north of where I live, but if there is anything I can do to facilitate your move, please don't hesitate to ask. And whether you've got the move completely handled or not, I hope that we can get together sometime after you come up for air.

OP--

I love you, too, OP!

And just for the record, I did have my Brown under my shirt at the grocery store this AM. (OK, it was Wal-Mart, but I did.) Didn't want to leave it in my truck.

Sweet dreams, brother! :D

Hurray!

The wife and I are always wishing you the best.

Sweeter dreams, sister.:)

Somehow, I always think OTE lives in the East. Yet I KNOW this is not so.

Hope all is well with you, sir.

The In-Laws are in Scottsdale. I can't stand it in the summertime. Good lord.

Winter is beautiful. Nice hiking terrain. Especially further north and such. Loved hiking in Sedona too.

Yes, everything is fine down here. It's a bit hot at times, but at least we don't have the humidity so prevalent in your neck of the woods. I hope all is well with you and yours too, my friend!
