Hello everyone, first post here on blade forums. Just started getting back into knives, bought a emerson cqc 7 a month ago. Been using it as a edc. It's a 2013 I bought off blade hq, couple things that bother me with it.. For one thing the black finish came off pretty darn easily. I have beat it up a bit, nothin crazy though by any means. The emerson logo almost looks screen printed on, I've seen many Emerson's logos almost look like they are engraved into the blade, they are nice and bright looking and mine was printed on. Did they just start doing this? The lock up does this thing every now and then where if I pull the blade forward and backward it kind of makes a creak sound, but sometimes it doesn't. Besides that I'm happy with it. It's very sturdy and solid and the blade is dead center. Any pointers or tips for me? It's a month old knife, I'm a noob I'd say for sure, used knives my whole life but recently I'm kind of obsessive Lol how can I get photos on here? It's telling me that the admin won't allow me to upload photos, kind of weird.

Welcome.

To post pictures, register at a site such as Photobucket, Imugur, etc. Then upload pics from your computer, and copy+past the "IMG" links.

Thanks, I can't upload photos via tapatalk on a cell phone period?

Not unless you are a paying member. I'm a paying member & still prefer to use photobucket. :) I have an app for photo bucket that makes it pretty simple to get pictures from my phone to the forums.

Oh & welcome to bladeforums! Its all down hill from here as far as saving money goes lol. I don't know much about Emerson but somebody will be around to help you out soon enough.

Thanks guys. This wasn't really a tech question it was a knife question regarding a emerson super cqc7, I thought that would be a general knife kind of question

Your question about how to upload pictures was enough. These questions, when answered correctly help other folks and prevent duplicate requests for the same info over and over. As for your Emerson question, over the last 3 years significant changes have occurred to the construction of the knives.
A different coating appears to be in use now for the black knives. As a result the lettering varies from one year to the next.
The removal of the back spacer and addition of stand offs.
The different pivot screw, which can be seen on 2012 models and newer is the other one that comes to mind.

Thanks for your knowledge. Basically I'm asking if anyone has seen a similar situation, my logo looks printed vs everyone else's I see looks engraved and my finish is not durable at all. I understand things change year to year but I feel like a finish shouldn't rub off the way mine has and my lockup just doesn't seen right to me.

Looks ok to me. The logos wear differentIy comparing black vs stonewashed blades it seems. I have stonewashed blades mostly and the logos arent etched in either. I would also keep the washers and pivot dry.

Thanks for the reply. I was just looking on google and even on the emerson site the logo looks totally different. I do keep them dry, I took it apart to dry it out actually that's when I took these pics. I wonder why they looked etched in on many pics I've seen.

After you took the pics did you clean all the gunk out? If not take it apart again and use CLP (or similar cleaning agent) to clean it all out. Dry it off put it back togeher and youre set. It should be nice and smooth with no squeaking.

Yep, I always keep it nice clean and lubed. The creaking sound happens occasionally when the knife is locked open and I pull the blade forward and backward

Ive had the squeak happen to me before. I beleive my de-tent on the non locking side was a tad rough like a micro bur. So all I did was polish the edges and corners very lightly with 2000 grit sand paper and loosened the de-tent (my preference) and all squeaking was gone.

WELCOME! Good to have you here.

Congrats on owning my favorite knife, its a beast and will take allot. Your lock up looks too early, I'd behind it forward a bit well it's disassembled to fix that. Secondly that creak could be a really bad sign, your knife may need to go back to emerson for repairs. The creek noise you described some times is associated with a weak liner lock and people having problems with it disengaging under pressure. Please tell us more about it. Have you stress tested it to make sure the lock doesn't engage?

Thanks everyone! Onionpoptarts, I have actually tested it, spine whacked it, and put some strain on the blade and there is zero blade play now. The creak is also gone, the lock was sticky for a bit also. maybe thats what the creak was. I have the pivot tightened pretty tight now though. Easily opened and closed with one hand but it definitely cant be flicked open using the thumb disk. I have been opening and closing the knife a lot to get that lock up to go over a bit, now that the stick is gone Im hoping thats what the creak was. Out the box the lockup was extremely early

One more thing, I dont know if this is the norm or not as this is my first emerson, if the pivot screw isnt tightened almost all the way, the blade goes severely off center and then there is also bad blade play.

Yes, many emersons are like that because of its non-locking liner housing the detent to keep the blade closed. However, it should not rub against the frame.
