Hello blade forums, first post

Welcome to the madness, MOhunter!

Yes, many emersons are like that because of its non-locking liner housing the detent to keep the blade closed. However, it should not rub against the frame.
Mike, I didn't know that. My Super Commander and my Journeyman are just fine -- smooth and centered with no tinkering by me. However, my 7 -- well, I had to tighten the pivot a lot to get the blade centered. Now, even though I've lubed my 7 and continue to flick it to "break it in," I still have to use a strong thumb to get the blade to open with one hand.
I guess I'm wondering if this is a common occurrence on the 7's but not other Emersons?

Yup, there are two ball detents on an emerson. One on the locking liner and one on the non locking side. If you take your blade apart you'll see that the locking liner detent will not fit into the hole for the detent, but the non locking side detent will. There should some wear on the paths of the detents on each side of the blade and the locking wear path will not reach the detent hole. Since your 7 is very stiff, the non-locking detent is probably bent over just a little too much. If it doesn't break in, then you can do what I did. My 8 was like that until i bent the non-locking detent spring in just a bit (I did email emerson and asked if they recommended consumers adjusting the non-liner detent and they said no lol). If you do adjust it be VERY CAREFUL AND USE VERY SLIGHT ADJUST MENTS, it will take a lot of assembly and disassembly to get it right. If you have questions on how I did this just pm me. Or, just send it into emerson.

Thanks guys, I bought 3 emersons total and got bit by the emerson bug. A little disappointed though. My first super cqc 7 I already posted those troubles on this thread, it is currently on the way to emerson. I bought a desert roadhouse next, absolutely loved it, rock solid BUT if devoloped vertical blade play. The lockbar literally bends when I apply pressure to the spine of the knife. I then bought a CQC 10 brand new which was a tough find. It was a 2011 model. It came very smooth, smoother than both my other emersons. Except when I open it, it greeted me with a squeeeeak and then a nasty rub sound before it locked. There was a bur of some sort on the lock bar that was causing it that I could not get to go away. And yet again, the lock bar on this one bends when pressure was applied to the spine of the knife causing vertical blade play. Needless to say Im pretty pissed, Ive only ever owned 3 emersons, 2 made in 2013 and one made in 2011 and each one had blade play and lock bar problems. Fit and finish excellent on each one and razor sharp though, thats all they had going for them. I sent the super cqc7 and cqc10 back for repair, and held onto the roadhouse so I at least had a knife to carry until I get my others back. Im sending the desert roadhouse back after that. Im going to tell them my woes when they call me for payment when they send the knives back and see what they say. Otherwise I will never buy another one, because 3/3 knives that I bought with good faith have burnt me with severe defects. I hope they do the next one and pay the shipping and absolutely make sure the knives are rock solid like they advertise because I bought 3 of these damn things in 2 weeks and each one was frankly crap. We will see how they handle this

Please keep us updated, I'm very interested to see how Emerson handles this.

Will do. Have you ever experienced or heard what I'm talking about? The main issue with the knives was the lock bar literally bending when just a bit of pressure was put on the spine causing vertical blade play. I'm in love with each emerson I own except for that main issue

I have never heard of the issue of the lock bar bending, but I have heard many complaints on the knife squeaking. The squeak is just the detent rubbing the blade. Mine used to have it until it was worn in. The squeak doesn't affect performance, but I can understand your frustration with it, especially for the price paid.

It's unreal it's pretty bad. The lock bar bend. I'll let you know what emerson does

Alright everyone, my knives were delivered to them on monday, I called today to see what they would say about my situation. Talked to a fellow named Ernesto. Hes a nice guy, he is a bit confusing though. He kind of floats off topic when I was talking to him, BUT I told him about buying 3 emersons within a month and each one has bad issues, 2 of them being lock bar bending with any pressure put on the spine of the knife causing bad vertical blade play. I said thats pretty unacceptable buying 3 Emersons, from 3 dealers in different parts of the country and each knife ranging from 2011 to 2013 having these issues brand spankin new out of the box. Those two knives are at emerson, I suppose they havent even looked at them yet. He said they will cover the shipping back to me, and I will pay to have my roadhouse with its bending lock bar sent to them, they will pay to ship it back. I am pleased with that, so I applaud them. When they let me know my knives are done I will refresh their memory of the 3 sorry knives I bought from them and see what they did to fix the knives or hopefully even replace one of them. I just couldnt believe these knives escaped QC the way they were.. Excellent F&F but horrible structural defects. Loved each one besides those issues. This was my current update, I will post again to let everyone know what the final outcome and resolution is to my Emerson situation.
