Hello,

i am browsing this Forum for some months now and found that it is time to introduce myself.
My name is Ulrik Beyer, 25 years old, and i am an austrian knifemaker. I make my knives under the pseudonyme koraat-knives.
I make all kind of knives, from hunting to kitchen knives, but in the past two years i specialized on Razors and on casting my own steel with special alloys.

I sure have still much to learn and seen all the outstanding work presented here i would enjoy if you gave me some feedback on my work so i can further improve.

Here are some examples of what i have made:

This Couple is made of a special alloy with 1,5%Carbon 1%tungsten and 1,5% Niobium. This steel takes an extreme Hardness of about 64-66hrc and has a good wear resistance. The handle is made of amboina Burl and hammered brass.

This is a hunting knife i made for a customer. The blade is made of rolling mill steel, the fittings are carbon steel finished to a used look and some copper. The handle material is "stellersche seekuh".

This razor is made of one of my speziel steel alloys. 1,5%Carbon and 0,25%tantal. It shows some texture in the steel similar to wootz and has a straight hamon. The handle is made of desert ironwood.

kind regards,
Ulrik

Not to be rude let's get back to english.

Nice work but because you asked for feedback/critics: The razor would be smoother if you would lower/sink (versenken, I don't know how to say it in english) the screws. Besides that I think the design is great.

I particularly like the hunting knife; excellent design and attention to detail.
I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
Thanks for posting.

You do beautiful works! Like your kitchen and hunting knives specially with the special blades and the amazing wooden handles.

Very nice work. I can't say that I can find anything I don't like. Your hunter is my favourite due to the materials and contrasts, but the textured brass guards with amboyna look beautiful too.

Grayzer86 just took the words right out of my mouth. Thanks for sharing. Love the hunter with the "stellersche seekuh".

I am very interested in the straight razor. You said you have made a few more, could u show them here?
this one looks real nice.

The hunter is also my favorite. Really like the materials and shape, just makes me happy.
Beautiful work.

Countersink or counterbore

Great looking stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Just a question, Why use a Pseudonym? For your knives. Slap your real name on those!

Sehr gut. can you tell us, if possibile, the name of the steel you used? Is it a "your own" production or is it affordable from any steels factory?
Really nice works here. Congrats.

Thank you everybody for your kind words! I didnt expect to get that much reactions!

@Chilli77: Servus! You are right. It would indeed look smother if the screws were counterbored. I will keep that in mind for the next razors.

@gredpe3: Sure i can show some more razors.

@tinbasher: Thank you for the help with the spelling.

@bigfattyt: I started with this pseudonym years ago and now it is in some way my brand name. Many peoples even call my Koraat in real life. So i think that changing it now wouldnt be good for my marketing.

@melerian: The steel is not affordable from any factory. I produce it myself in small amounts (about 2-3 kg). I can post pictures of the process if you are interested.

Some more razors i made:

This is more a art razor. The blade is a sanmai with a core of selfcasted steel (1,2%C 1%Mn 0,7%Cr 0,25%V 0,2%Nb) and outer layers made of 1.2842 and 75Ni8. The scales are ebony with sterling silver pins and 750/000 Gold.

image.php

This is a more simple razor. A bit japanese style like a kamisori but with a symmetric grind. Steel is filesteel and the handle palisander.

image.php

This one has a sanmai blade with rollingmill core (1.3505) and 1.2842/75Ni8 for the outer layers. The handle is Horn.

One more kamisori style razor. I tried a special grind on this. Steel is forged 1.3505.

best regards,
Ulrik

Beautiful work Ulrik. I am particularly drawn to the Japanese style razor with palisander.
