Hello!! I´m a new member of this forum. I have been visiting for some time, and just got the courage to make my first post.
I live in Argentina, and speak Spanish, so I appologize for my English.
I collect knives and guns, I´m a shooter and reloader.

I was introduced to the Spyderco fraternity by Mr Sal Glesser himself, while he demonstrated his knives at the 1989 Blade Show, held at Knoxville, Tennessee at that time. I was literally bitten by "the bug" (pun intended) then.
Since that time, I got and use one kind or another Spyderco with myself everyday.
I got a collection of around 40 different models now.

Thank you for your kind attention, and thanks to all of you for sharing your collections and knife knowledge.

Dear Ront:
Thank you so much for your kind welcome!
I surely will sign in at the Spyderco Forums too.
Have a nice day, very cordially,

Welcome to the forums Spydersharp!
Your English is quite good, better than most.
You have a well developed addiction! Congrats!

Welcome to the forums, Spydersharp, I am new here as well. There are a great bunch of people on this forum. Oh, and as for your English, it is probably better than the English. ;)

Mmmotorcycle and A.P.F.
Thank you so much for your kind welcome, and your nice words about my English.
Certainly we are sharing a great passion for knives in general, and the nice "spyders" here!
Spyderco knives are popular down here, but they are imported rather irregularly, due to our constants up and downs of our economy.
Also prices are high due to currency relationship. They should be more popular if more affordable, and if constant imported. Hope this will be so in the future!
Meanwhile, we mostly get our spyders through Internet sources, at great prices indeed.
I´ll try to keep showing some of my collection soon.
Thanks again!

Hi Spydersharp,

Welcome in the forums!

Appreciate to see your collection of Spydercos :)

You and me we share nearly the same purchase situation. In Austria Spyderco knives are high priced as well. But, where there's a will, there's a way.

Welcome to BF, were one big family of knife nuts from all over the planet. If its knives, you found the right place.

Howdy, I am a newbie but plunged right in. I am not a collector. I am a cyclist, camper, hiker, and prefer the woods over the town. I use knives daily. My main camp/survival knife is a K.C.Largin Paula; it was designed and made by his wife Paula a decade or so ago. My only input was my hand measurement, trace of my hand, and my request that she design a knife that she'd want her children and grandchildren to have in the wilds. She designed the knife, chose the materials, and made

length overall 9 1/2"
blade length 4 9/16"
cutting edge 4 9/16" mixed plain and serrated
blade steel 440-C stainless
blade thickness 7/32"
handle length 4 1/2",
7/16" steel butt juts past handle end as hammer
handle material Oosik, fossilized walrus penile bone
weight 8 ounces, 227g

as a worthy tool for me.

I got in contact with Ken and Paula Largin (Kelgin Knives) a couple of days ago and emailed them. Their response

Like to say we remember it but don't. Love to see a picture! You have a one of a kind big time especially since we are retired to teaching and nothing like that will be made again. THANKS, Ken and Paula

I emailed pictures of the knife to them. You can see by the specs that it is a monster, a beautiful one. It replaced hatchet, hammer, emergency signal mirror, pry bar, and trenching tool; it still looks good after much use.

I have used many brands of knives, but recently converted to Spydercos as best varied backup and support knives to go with my "Paula" custom. I came to the forum with a Delica 4 and a CoPilot. I am convinced that Spyderco makes the knives necessary for my activities ( I am not a collector). After using Spyderco knives and trying them, I am also convinced that most other folders are unsafe to use. I make two exceptions, the blades of my Leatherman Wave and Squirt. Other than my "Paula" i except a Camillus skinning knife I have had a long time too. Except for those I go Spyderco. Take the word of a marsh, woods, mountain, and meadow grunt.

The folk in the Spyderco section were helpful, helped me with my selection and were just downright friendly.

knife, hoe, and spade
My uncle John Will Donegan used to saythat. I don't know if it is a quote from someone else or original with him. Anyone familiar with this quote?

Peter1960: Thank you! es, I will post some pictures of my collection, it will be a pleasure

Saint satin stain:
Thank you too! Your Paula knife sounds impressive indeed. May be you can post a picture of it, may be side by side with your Spydercos.

Spyders seem to be adicitive indeed!!
Very cordially,

Welcome to bladeforums I would love to see some pictures of your collection if you get a chance.

Welcome to the forums Spydersharp:cool:

Very nice collection of little ones you got there:thumbup:

How do you like your CoPilot?

I see you have a Pegasus as well(wish I got one when I had the chance.:grumpy: )

Do you use them all or do you keep them just for collection only?

What's favourite Spydie so far?

Dear D3/SE:
Thank you so much for your welcome and coments.
Yes, there is a CoPilot and Pegasus in my collection, but I keep them as collector pieces, though I am often tempted to use, I have a deeply etched feeling of maintaining collecting pieces "mint in the box".
I like their shape and handling very much indeed. I think they have the adecuate size for an EDC piece, with enough blade size for any usual task.

Anyway, I have never used them. This is a disadvantage, as you may never really enjoy enterely your knives, but fact is that I have a large collection of knives of different types, so I have a group of "using knives" and another of "collector knives".
I also have antique knives, and I don´t have problems in using them carefully, as they already show signs of past use.

Reagarding Spydercos, I keep as a daily carry, a Calypso JR, which is my favourite. I carry it with me every day!
Another favourite is the Military Model, though it is a bit too large for every day carry in places I usually go. I also keep an old Worker as user.
In general, for dayly use I prefer models in the Calypso JR size and with plastics handles, instead of the all metal types, which find a bit heavy for my taste.
I keep using my "carry" knives (and I carry at least 4 or 5 folding knives with me every day!) along all day: opening envelopes, boxes, cutting strings, having lunch, etc. I´m really a "knife fan" to say the least.

Now, I think I will have to brake my own rules, as Mr Montejano made me promise that I was going to use one of his engraved Spydercos (which I posted separately), so I will decide which of the two.
It´s a difficult decision, because I will break my old custom of no using my "collecting" knives, and also because its a rather heavy knive, being all metal, but in this case, it will be surely a pleasure.

Thank you so much, and have a nice day!
Abel

Hi Abel,

Thanks for the nice group picture - Wegner Mouse, Navigator, Cricket, Pegasus, Dragonfly, Ladybug, CoPilot - great designs of small Spydies!

...Regarding Spydercos, I keep as a daily carry, a Calypso JR, which is my favourite. I carry it with me every day!
Another favourite is the Military Model, ...
Looks like we have the same taste for EDC knives :)

Did you ever tried the new Caly3 - it's my new favorite as EDC - I highly recommend it!

Thanks again for your warm welcome.

To:Peter1960

It is in my plans to order a new Caly3, next week. Which are the differences (or similararities) with my old Calipso Jr? I love the JR. I bought one for me
(dayly carry) and one for my son (he likes it very much too) and another for a present. Thank you for your answer!! Abel

Thank you all. My digital camera's battery containment door is broken, but by wednesday I hope to have it fixed. I will take pictures of it then. I have some old pictures of it. I will try to upload those to my blog. okay.
