Hello to everybody here on Bladeforums.com,

My name is Scott Thomas and I am a full time general blacksmith and run Ardenwood Forge located in Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont California. After reading many of the posts to this site, I am impressed with the sense of community from all the members here at Bladeforums.

I work the full range of blacksmithing from farrier work to historic reproductions and custom commissioned projects. I have forged general utility knives for folks for a number of years, and have decided to try and raise the quality of my knife work from just a general-purpose utility tool to a higher level of quality and finish. I look forward to learning the finer aspects of fit and finish from the pool of knowledge here at Bladeforums. In return, as a professional blacksmith and instructor of blacksmithing for the California Blacksmith Association I hope that some of my experience and knowledge will be of use to folks here as well.

Here is a photo of my first “Fancy” blade. About 14 5/8th inches over all with a 7 1/2 inch cutting edge. Forged from a piece of 5/8 round coil spring, hand filed and finished with a grip of Black Acacia wood. The balance point is right at the finger guard.

Sincerely,
Scott Thomas

Welcome, welcome, welcome ! There is a LOT of info here ! Your knife is a most unusual piece - very intriguing. Hope to see more from you in time. Cheers. Jason.

WELCOME SCOTT!

It's always nice to have someone new share a little about themselves and put up a knife photo... on the very first post no less! Love the knife, too! I'm sure that with your knowledge of smithing you'll be a valuable asset to teh discussions we have here. WELCOME, and glad to have you aboard! :)

Scott, welcome to BFC! Enjoy!:D

Down the road you might want to upgrade your membership to "Knifemaker".
That will allow you to post items for sale in the custom by makers forum, and sell surplus knifemakers equipment, or supplies in that forum.

BTW, nice knife.

Love that knife - looks like a chopper (cycle)

Welcome to Bladeforums! Heckuva first post...!

I probably have nothing to teach you, but I'm certainly looking forward to seeing more of your work and some of your tricks and tips.

who is this Moderator guy   ;) :D

I've known Scott for about 5 years now. I've worked in his shop many times, and it's always a blast. I don't get over there as often these days, and I always look forward to the experience.

He uses only coal fired forges, and only muscle powered tools.

I give him a hard time because he's running an arms race between the Roman and Celtic re-enactor clubs. (He provides arms for both sides.)

He also makes some incredible wasters for our Italian Longsword Class. Well balanced, easy to control, and fast as lightning.

Scott - See ya at Schola St George on thursday!

Welcome Scott.
If you are selling arms to both sides, you'll fit in here just fine.
Btw....Nice blade!

Thread from the dead here... Just wanted to pop in and say I watched your appearance on Forged in Fire last night and wanted to congratulate you on the win! Also, you seem like a nice guy. Found it funny that I got online to see if you had an online source for selling your creations and I stumbled upon this. What's funnier even is the fact that J. Neilson himself was one of the first ones to welcome you to the community. I've lurked here for years, and finally sign up a few months ago.

Knife on!
