Hello Fine Folks,

This place was recommended from SigForum which is a website for Sig Sauer Firearm Enthusiasts. I have limited knowledge on blades and I am looking to fix that in 2017.

I currently own a RAT-5, a Microtech OTF Troodon (I think, it is a smaller version perhaps), and several Spyderco's including a Goddard with a Micarta Handle and fully serrated blade.

I am interested in what you guys think about me Trading/Selling my Troodon and the Goddard to fund the purchase of a Small Sebenza which I would use for EDC. I have always wanted one.

The Troodon and the Goddard sit in the safe and do nothing as I just carry the other random Spyderco's, looking to change that.

Thoughts are appreciated and I am happy to be among you!

Welcome.

If you don't like them...sell them. If you do...don't.

Sebenzas are excellent knives.

Anything else we can help with?

I say go for it. I'd have little use for an MT Troodon besides just playing with it. The Goddard is sweet and I love Spyderco, but I'd trade the Goddard and Troodon for a small Seb.

Welcome to Blade Forums!

The Small Sebenza 21 is one of the most popular EDC blades ever made. I have two different varieties and they find their way into my pocket on a regular basis.

I don't own a Microtech, and don't plan on ever owning one, but I do have a Goddard that lives in a knife bag. It's a fine knife but it could never make its way into my pocket.

In terms of a Sebenza vs. random Spydercos for daily carry, I can only share my experience. I used to have 10 or so Spydies as part of my EDC rotation (out of an EDC pool of about 80 knives...yeah, I got problems :p). Over the last few years, the Spydies have been gradually pushed out of my EDC rotation by other knives. At this point all I have in my rotation are a Chaparral, a Lil Para modified Delica and a Dragonfly. The only Spydies that work for me are the small, ultralight models because I have much better knives to carry with >3" blades. The last to retire to storage was my Southard, replaced by a much better flipper from WE.

Anyway, long story short, I think you WILL feel a difference from upgrading to a Sebenza from a random Spyderco. I've experienced it in my carry habits and predict you will too.

There are a couple of caveats:
The Sebenza, though iconic, simply doesn't resonate for some people. That's entirely valid and you need to be willing to accept one might not work for you. Buy from a reputable vendor (NO eBay!!!) and make sure you can return it. Even if you can't return it, Sebbies sell well on the secondary market and your loss should be minimal.

You need to consider if the small 21 is the right model for you, and among the 21's, which version? Ti slabs? Micarta or wood inlays? How about a CF presentation scale (my personal favorite)? Do your research and visit the CRK subforum to get a lot of great advice from folks who know the knives WAY better than me.

In terms of models, take a look at the small Inkosi. I have a feeling you might be more in line with that model if you're used to Spydies.

Anyway, have fun and welcome to the sickness!

What a well thought out reply, thank you. Prior to coming here, I did not even know about the inlays and different types, I can see I need to do some research.

Get a gold membership and try the trading forums, someone may trade you a Sebenza for the 2. But I love my Sebenza, I would not hesitate to get one. If you get a good deal on a used one you can always sell it for what you paid.

Highly recommend the CRK line, they are absolutely awesome. I am yet to see someone not like them. Just FYI for selling your folders here you would need to pay a subscription but for buying items you DO NOT.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM AS WELL.

Wow, the bullet hole one is AMAZING!

Is that some sort of a custom order? how much was it...... VERY impressive.

What is the legality when selling the OTF? I thought I read that it can not cross state lines.

Go for it the small sebenza is an awesome edc knife. I would recommend getting the micarta inlays. CRK also has great resale value if you dont like it.

Where did you buy that inkosi? I keep looking but cant find the damn thing in stock

I bought it from bladehq.com. I believe it's their exclusive. I had to put myself on their email list to notify me when it was in stock.
