Hello B.F. community. I have a problem and am looking for some good, well thought, put to test advice. I have been a Sebenza carrier for the past 4 years. Day in and day out. I also have a Spyderco Para 2 for what I call my "smash and bash" jobs. Both I find to be very good slicers. However, I am looking to spice things up a bit and want to buy a new edc to go in my rotation, if you could call that a rotation, lol. I have many Sebenzas that I collect, but only one that I use. A Large 21 with Micarta Inlays and polished blade and I love it. I broke it in to perfection and would never part with it for the world. But now I am looking for a new slicer for between $400.00 and $800.00. I have tried The wilson combat-les George "Eagle" flipper and it was definately not for me, I even tried a Strider sj75 just for kicks and it was also not what I was looking for. I have done some research and I have narrowed it down to a new Shirogorov as those are flat ground and seem like they would be great slicers. I have never handled one but have watched many YouTube videos about them and they appear to be good slicers. I have looked at Hinder XMs and they are just beasts. I would like a 3.5 inch non-flipper with a Krein Regrind but that will take some searching and still may not be what Im looking for. So if anyone out there has any input about a really good midcustom knife that is a great slicer please let me know and tell me about it. I am NOT interested in any Spydercos or Kershaws or anything like that. My budget is up to $800.00 + or - a few hundred so that is the range Im looking at. I want a knife that will last the test of time and be there when I need it. In other words a Sebenza, lol. But really, I would appreciate any input that you all may have out there and I am really looking for a nice sleek design, nothing bigger than a large Sebenza and nothing with a blade much smaller than 3 inches. 3.5 or 3.75 would be perfect. Maybe up to 4 if the knife is right. Ive just looked at so many knives I dont know what to try anymore. I dont think any Striders would be right for me and I already have a Sebenza 25 that just sits and collects dust because I like the one that I have used for the past 4 years. I want to thank everyone in advance and hopefully I will be able to get some great input and find my next edc to add to my "rotation". Im interested to hear what all of you have to say and take care. William Henry, Hinderer or full custom are probably the best routes at that price point. Can't really think of anything else right now...

In fact, full custom is probably the best route. If you've got $800+ to dump into a knife, you can literally get any size and shape out of any material you want.

In that price range I would have to agree with Grease. You can get any style knife with any steel you would like. Pick out what materials you want and contact a maker. Blade forums has quite a few to choose from.

Sounds like the perfect knife for you is a....

...Sebenza.

I vote for a cull custom by Brad Southard. I like his work.

Well I'd say get a full blown custom with all the bells and whistles just the way you like it.....

I couldn't read that. If someone doesn't use paragraphs its rough on my eyes, lol.

But, in the $400-$800 range I would go with a Sebenza myself. I have many custom fixed blades, custom slipjoints, but sold all of my custom locking knives. Prefer the Sebenza for a locking knife in that price range.

I'm not fond of flippers, but if I was I would go custom for sure if a flipper is what you're wanting.

I would have to also say, a custom Southard. While I am not crazy about that blade shape, it looks to me like it was created to slice. Your just gonna have to wait a long time for it...

In my opinion no-one makes slicers like Des Horn. His construction and heat treat is superb.

Check out this thread....... here and here

Here is the link to his site which is just undergoing a makeover. http://www.deshorn.com

PM me if you have any questions or would like to see some pics of my knives.

Shirogorov Model 95 in S90V is an incredible knife and in your price range. Mine is in my pocket right now :D

Also, Have you considered an Umnumzaan?

Thank you for your input so far. Yes, I actually own an umnumzaan, a bit too beefy for me. I am looking for a knife with the specs of a Shirogorov. And can anyone with one please tell me if they are good slicers. I would appreciate it if you could tell me some more customs or brands to check out that are known for their good slicing ability. I am going to take my time and check out all the custom makers listed but knives like Kirby lamberts are just way too thick and big. Im looking for something the size of a large Sebenza and with great slicing capability. Thank you for all of your input so far. Also, Im really interested in any knives with Krein regrinds so if anyone has any that they are considering letting go please let me know, thanks all and take care.

Get yourself a Munroe Revenant if you can find one. It's a friction folder, but it is a laser. Sharpest little slicer in my entire collection (or that I've ever handled).

I really like my Ray Laconico EDC folder. It has a nice full flat grind and the simplicity of the knife really speaks to me. He has several other models as well. He actually posts some of his knives for sale on the knifemakers market here on bladeforums. I would definitely check him out, i think that his knives are a bargain for what you get.

Nothing slices like an Opinel. If you want to save a boatload of money, get an Opinel. If you think my response was a little ridiculous, you are right! Contact a custom maker and see if you can get something like an Opinel in a super steel. The Opinel is a pretty classy design, but if you go through and get something like a solid carbon fiber handle and a 3V blade would make is classy, awesome, and did I mention awesome?

Shirogorov OAL is like 9 1/8" most knives I listed are around that and some can be ordered to different length etc
I don't see much wrong with a slicer hinderer
Just look at pohans videos on YouTube he demos his knives slicing ability and it is amazing he also has orders that are about 4months out and very recently started making different blade lengths has ikbs do action is super smooth

Best of luck in your search
