Hello,

So, I've been hanging around this forum for the better part of three years now, and what I notice is that I rarely post compared to many of the regulars here. The site tells me I have 220 posts in this forum, but most have been involved with the Mr. Knife Box and the Case Pass-around (both of which are super duper fun!).
I guess the thing is that when I read a post, I don't really feel like I have much to say. So, in order to have something to say, I'll do a giveaway.

Here it is: To enter, say something about yourself. It can be whatever you want: shoe size, current city/town, favorite food, mother's maiden name, favorite knife maker, etc. Whatever you want to say, only constraint is that it should be true. I'll go first: My name is Marc.

I'll let this run a few days, then pick someone at random. I am willing to ship this to the US, Canada, and Europe, maybe other places.

What am I giving away? It's this Schrade Scrimshaw series folding hunter. It's quite nice really. If I were selling this, I would be nervous to call it like new, but it truly has minimal signs of use. And it's got a great, snappy action. Really great - especially considering it's 47 years old. Schrade USA made some nice knives, is what I'm trying to say. And it comes with its original belt sheath.

Not an entry but this is a very nice gesture from you! I hope that you will jump on to the Porch and become an active participant! That is a beautiful knife! Thanks for your contribution! 😃

Well Marc, I’ll jump in on your GAW. I’ve always been a Schrade fan but when I saw the Mayflower on the back it fell right into your theme stating something about ourselves. My mother was always doing research into our family, long before computers and the DNA sites that exist today. She was able to trace actual family members to arriving here on the Mayflower. She registered my daughters in a group called Descendants of the Mayflower if I remember correctly. She passed 11 years ago this month and all her work and documentation was given to my Aunt who still has it.

Mighty nice of you to hold a GAW, good luck to all that enter!

Hi Marc, I was just talking to my wife a little while ago about a Schrade folder I lost and how I used to pass by Ellenville and Walden, NY many times when going to school up in Ulster County and never did stop in. Now it is gone and I'm sure missed by many. I always did like those scrimshaw knives they sold years ago and again, never did buy one. My name is Craig and I'd love to enter your drawing. Thank you so much for this great giveaway, your generosity and this great old folder.

Not an entry.
But my name is Frank. I'm 71. I got my first pocket knife sometime when I was about 6. It being before the advent of "modern knives", it was a traditional, an equal end jack with a clip and pen blade and jigged synthetic covers. It was significantly older than I was when I got it. Long gone, lost in boyhood, but I think it was a Colonial. It all started from there.

Hi Marc, I'm in.

I'm in for the true story I will tell about why the Mayflower on the handle convinced me to enter. Some years ago, my (paternal) cousins went through the process of getting registered as Daughters of the American revolution, and found that our family had ancestors on the Mayflower. That was very fun for me since I was not born in the US. My mother is Canadian, and she did not trust the hospitals where I grew up (in the US) so she went back to Canada and stayed with my grandparents for a few weeks to have me. And then my parents didn't get me American Birth Abroad paperwork when I was born, they got me naturalization paperwork, so I am technically an immigrant even though I could (should) have been Natural Born. On the plus side, it means all my kids are also dual citizens. My wife is Jewish (as am I) and her family fled eastern Europe in the late 1930s, but the US was not welcoming refugees at that time, so they settled in South America. So all this adds up to my children being first generation Jewish Latin-Americans, and it tickles me to no end that my first-generation-Jewish-Latin-American daughter gets to be a Daughter of the American Revolution. I would love to give my oldest daughter a Mayflower knife to remind her of her story.

Love reading the things folks post in these threads. I wear a 14W and I have to mail order my Merrill shoes, no one anywhere around here stocks them! That is a great knife, someone with be getting a gem. Not in (way, way, way too many knives never being used now) but great to see you posting, hope you keep posting and participating. OH

Thanks for this cool GAW, very nice. Im in. :)

Some true things:
My phone is slippery and I have nearly dropped it 4 or 5 times just trying to type this. I am counting the minutes until my phone case shows up in the mail! Lol
I got my wife a little countertop hydroponic garden for mothers day and I am excited to grow some herbs in our kitchen. I took her and our baby to the aquarium yesterday and it was wonderful (though he wont remember it which makes me a little bit sad).
I also like the Pass around boxes here, and I think they are fun too. :)
I love pizza, and as a kid I once won free pizza for a year from Dominoes in a customer appreciation thing that they were doing. I was the only one in my family who never got tired of weekly pizza night. It was awesome. Lol
Last thing, I also stay quiet on here alot compared to many members. I am a pretty quiet guy and that is ok. If you only say things worth saying, then when you speak you are worth listening to. So dont feel bad. :) Just brighten someones day when you do post. I really appreciate you doing this GAW, and nice people doing nice things like this make this forum (specifically the Porch here) the best place on the internet. :)

Not an entry as their are others that would enjoy a hunter pattern more than I. But kudos on your generosity and a great prompt for people to get to know one another.

Just for fun, my name is Grant and I am from the Kansas City area. My favorite foods are BBQ (KC style of course), fried chicken, pizza, burgers, and currys of all sorts. I am an aspiring knife maker and so far have just been finishing blade blanks by rehandling them, sharpening, reprofiling blades and such. I even helped a friend complete one. Once I can get my forge set up (still unpacking from a semi recent move) I want to try making on myself from start to finish.

Hello Marc, and nice giveaway! I'm 68 years old, a born-again Christian, and lived my whole life in Missouri until 2020 when we moved to SW Florida. I'm married with two step-daughters and eight grandchildren. Size 11½W shoe, 48L jacket. Favorite knifemaker is Bill Howard. Thanks for the chance!

urghhhhh ... two blade slipjoint (genuine Schrade CS? I don't see a "Schrade +") folding hunter?!? 🤯😳

I wasn't planning to enter any GAWS from February ... but I gotta try for such a dream knife ... sorry. ☹️

Something that gotta b true about me ... O.K. ... Your choice; all r true 😇:

my name is Steve?

I R (numerically) 69 year old?
(physically I R much older. A Ortho doctor in 1985 after looking at my x-rays, told me (quote) "You're walking around pretty dam good for a guy that's 185 years old!" (end quote) I have no clue what my physical age is now, aside from "older".)

I have always loathed/detested/hated shaving, so quit that nasty, vile, disgusting, expensive habit a week before I graduated high school in 1974? (beard has been trimmed back a few hands once or twice a year. Getting beard caught in coat zipper and/or shirt buttons is annoying ... 🤨)

I like "simple" carbon steel blades, such as 10xx, and the "simple" stainless alloys like 440A; 420HC; and 1.4114 KRUPP, best?
(they'll take a keen 10° per side 20° inclusive edge without fear of chipping. The rare rolled edge is easy to fix with a strop or butcher's steel)

I R "ewww-gly"? (merely "ugly" would b a vast upgrade/improvement.)

I are a sarcastic and cynical b∆st∆rd?
There are actually six definitions for that word, including being the (former in most jurisdictions) legal term for "born out of wedlock", witch I was.
I meet and/or exceed 4 of the 6 definations, so I must be one? 😁👍

Sense my mum was also a beeeeeeeeee-itch (in the unanimous opinion of her siblings and parents from her youngling days) I are a son of one? 😇👍

I have a "life-long" interest in history, firearms, muzzleloaders, "obsolete" weapons, and Sci-Fi?

I often wonder why "common sense" has become exceptionally rare these days?

Thank you for the chance. 😁👍

I’m in. Very generous giveaway!
My grandpa used to say that half of his ancestors came to the new world on the Mayflower, and that the other half were waiting for them with hatchets! (I'm sure he was talking about tomahawks, but everyone got the jest, lol) He would just laugh when he would make the comment; he thought it was witty and all; he was right. It makes me smile to remember him in those ways. Thanks a lot!
