Good to see you Rick. You didn't mention the pocket watch restorations.I'm Rick and hmmmm.. Size 13, Pittsburgh, probably good tuna, frazee, I like a bunch of the fellas who make knives amd share them on the forums here. Case and A Wright too.
That is fricking amazing. First generation Jewish-Latin-American members of the DAR - there is so much amazing stuff going on in that phrase! And I have now seen it in print, B"H!I'm in for the true story I will tell about why the Mayflower on the handle convinced me to enter. Some years ago, my (paternal) cousins went through the process of getting registered as Daughters of the American revolution, and found that our family had ancestors on the Mayflower. That was very fun for me since I was not born in the US. My mother is Canadian, and she did not trust the hospitals where I grew up (in the US) so she went back to Canada and stayed with my grandparents for a few weeks to have me. And then my parents didn't get me American Birth Abroad paperwork when I was born, they got me naturalization paperwork, so I am technically an immigrant even though I could (should) have been Natural Born. On the plus side, it means all my kids are also dual citizens. My wife is Jewish (as am I) and her family fled eastern Europe in the late 1930s, but the US was not welcoming refugees at that time, so they settled in South America. So all this adds up to my children being first generation Jewish Latin-Americans, and it tickles me to no end that my first-generation-Jewish-Latin-American daughter gets to be a Daughter of the American Revolution. I would love to give my oldest daughter a Mayflower knife to remind her of her story.
I wear a 14EEEE. Merrills are a no-go for me. I am relegated to New Balance, Dunham, Propet and Bates (for combat boots mainly).Love reading the things folks post in these threads. I wear a 14W and I have to mail order my Merrill shoes, no one anywhere around here stocks them! That is a great knife, someone with be getting a gem. Not in (way, way, way too many knives never being used now) but great to see you posting, hope you keep posting and participating. OH
They are some of the most fun on the internet. My wife is mystified when I receive them. And once, when I received the Case one, I showed it to a friend (non-knife guy) and he asked me how much those would go for roughly. I told him, and then his mind was blown that I had been sent many hundreds of dollars worth of knives, and there was nothing forcing me to send it along to the next person. What a place!I also like the Pass around boxes here, and I think they are fun too.![]()
Nope. I so not believe it.Believe it or not, I used to be terrified of taking knives apart...
I believe it is SS, but I am not sure. I will do a little digging and say for sure.urghhhhh ... two blade slipjoint (genuine Schrade CS? I don't see a "Schrade +") folding hunter?!?![]()
I am a wannabe Masshole myself. I have spent the bulk of my life in New York City, but had a 3.5 year vacation to Brookline, MA. I miss it all the time.My name is John, I'm a Masshole (but was born in AZ), and if I win please send to r8shell . Thanks for the chance!
Yup - grandfathers can say amazing things. When I was a teenager, my grandfather was propositioned by a prostitute in my presence. He told me that nowadays with all the diseases, I have to "watch where I stick my pupick." It was only years later that I learned that pupick is definitely the Yiddish word for belly button. My grandpa used to say that half of his ancestors came to the new world on the Mayflower, and that the other half were waiting for them with hatchets! (I'm sure he was talking about tomahawks, but everyone got the jest, lol) He would just laugh when he would make the comment; he thought it was witty and all; he was right. It makes me smile to remember him in those ways. Thanks a lot!
If it is stainless,, I would like to keep "my name in the hat", if possible at all, at all, please.I believe it is SS, but I am not sure. I will do a little digging and say for sure.
"I'm quite opinionated and have a tendency to rub people the wrong way if I'm not careful".This is not an entry , but I'd just like to say Welcome.
The porch is a great place to hang out and dive into traditional knives such as that fine Schrade scrimshaw series folding hunter you're giving away.
Schrade really knew how to make a solid working knife that could look really good and not break the bank.
I've been meaning to get myself a scrimshaw series Barlow for awhile but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Hopefully you can find more things to say around here, there's certainly no shortage of stunning knives to comment about.
I don't generally have a problem finding things to say just figuring out how to say them because I'm quite opinionated and have a tendency to rub people the wrong way if I'm not careful.
Yah think!!! Love you Johnny, the porch wouldn't be the same without you here. OHThats my character reference as well.![]()
You are correct. I was a math minor in college, which has removed all signs of common sense from anything I do with numbers.Perhaps your maths is worse than mine as I make that about 400 years (I havent enough fingers and toes to be more accurate).![]()
Shane, you and I have traded at least three times - maybe more. It's always a pleasure to do so with you!Not an entry but I will play along....I'm Shane and live in KY. I have taught / trained Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for roughly 20 years and have had the honor and pleasure of meeting alot of the martial artist / fighters that I admire growing up. I picked up a love for blades very early on and remember my dad and his buddies always hunting and fishing and they always had a knife in there pocket. Been obsessed ever since! Great idea for a giveaway.
The 940-1 was one of the first knives I owned (I believe it was the fourth to be precise). It was by far the highest end knife I had at the time. Eventually, I traded it away. It was super beautiful, but not really the one for me.I am a compulsive collector of things. When my son was a teenager, he got me interested in knives. I bought a Benchmade 940-1, thinking if I bought a nice knife, I wouldn't need more than one.
.... At least knives are small.
It's even worse with traditional knives because they're smaller, and there's an endless variety of used examples to be had for very little so they're easy to acquire. At least knives are small.
I'm sorry to about your brothers. I hope your elder brother wins his fight and you can sneak him a knife or two in the future.I'm in. And I like turt... erm I mean knives.
My mom had no siblings and 3 boys, and I'm the only son without cancer so far - my younger brother passed in 2020 from a brain tumor, and my older brother is fighting lung cancer. I liked to give knives to my brothers, until my older bro's significant other said "NO MORE PLEASE!". Then I started giving them away here for the past 2 years. I'm a disabled doctor and retired, and my wife retires soon; so money will get tight then, and we may start living off the sales of my collection bit by bit, piece by piece![]()
