Jake.

I realized that I have been on this site for a bit over a month and I have posted replies to threads and I have read a LOT on here, but I never introduced myself. So I apologize for being the guy that eavesdrops the conversation and adds his 2 cents without even introducing himself first.

So starting over: My name is Jake, I live in Aurora CO, I'm married to great woman who is smarter than I am, have 3 dogs and no human kids. I went to school for gunsmithing and now work in that field, so I have some experience using hand tools and working with metal and wood, to a bit different degree than in knifemaking, but similar enough that I should be able to cross some skills over. I became interested in knives from a very young age, I got my first knife at 10, a Swiss Army Knife in a leather sheath, I still have it and it was also the first knife I cut myself with! I have been doing minor collecting ever since, I don't have any custom knives, unfortunately, however I am hoping to change this in the future.

I want to say thank you to the community as a whole because you guys have a ton of knowledge and experience and that is an invaluable resource to someone new like myself.

So thank you for taking the time and thanks for letting me start over correctly

Welcome, Jake. This is my favorite, and only, forum to read and post on. Lots of info here and you will be pleased i'm sure. Colorado is a beautiful state, I lived in Denver for a while, and I miss the views.

Welcome Jake and Happy New Year.
If you ever get stuck on a question that isn't already answered here, give me a shout.
Will either answer it or point you in the right direction to get it answered

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Russian, I love it here in Colorado, I've been here since I was 4 so I tend to take the mountains for granted, until I drive through Kansas :D

Hankins, thank you, I appreciate it!

Cead Mile Failte Jake!

You might enjoy see the work of Bruce Bump, a forum member here who combines both of your interests.

This is a wonderful place to learn. I look forward to seeing your work.

Hello Jake,
I heard my name over here and came to check it out.
You have an interesting job. I envy your gun skills. I make black powder muzzleloading only guns due to the lack of the needed manufacturing license but please check out my photos on brucebumpknives.com
Thanks Peter for the mention.

Thanks again guys!

Patrice, I found that it works out pretty well, except she cheats at arguing!

Peter, I had to go look up the translation of your Irish, but thank you!

Bruce, I read through your entire Attor WIP a couple weeks ago and I thought it was AWESOME! Your gun skills are nothing to sneeze at, your inletting was great and your metalwork was beautiful! And your ability to combine guns and blades is enviable to be sure.

I am in the process of clearing out space in my garage and getting some specific tools, I have a bunch for guns already that will crossover just fine. But my garage needed cleaning out and I need to pick up a vise. I also need to get some metal, but in the mean time I bought some oak wood to practice shaping and filing on to start out with. So my first "knife" will be wooden, but once I get some metal and make my first actual knife I will get some pics up and get you guys to rip it apart! :D
