Helm Wrecker -Month review AAR

it is. Having shot the hard stuff for testing it's unlikely the hawk will do anything. The ceramic plates laugh at 308 rds

I can assure you that it will crack and break a ceramic plate if the plate is covered in line x yes line x if you got the patients remove as much as you can and you'll see it's cracked and fractured....so just me but I wouldn't want to take a second round in broken armor but it sure is lighter than my steel plates...lol

I can say with 100% certainty that Helm Hawks have been in the hands of many highly professional operators and I refined more praise for introducing his Hawks and knives than negative feedback which was you can't re holster it with one hand but on my plate carrier I can so its a learning curve. I like knives and love Hawks and as long as I have my Helms im just fine. Thank you James!

I have been thinking about this for a while, but I bet theres a way to make a Kydex slip that you can drop a tac axe through like an old hatchet holster, but still pull out the bottom like a tactical kydex rig. I have been tinkering with ideas for it myself, but I am not a pro kydex bender. It would have to have some sort of adjustable retention, clip, strap, bungie, something to snug the kydex back up to snap tight, but I bet theres a good way to do it.

I have steel plates in my carrier by choice. You can fracture ceramic plates by dropping them and you need an x-ray to examine. Did the ceramic plate screw the tip up at all? Can you post a pic of the tip? I've shot the ceramics and they do stop multiple hits. I can probably acquire a ceramic plate for testing.
I have no issues with resheathing. It is a good secure rig.
James, you tinker with the longer spike design yet?

WJC01 - I've ground on some scrap steel in the shop to see what fits in a standard padlock shackle and done a bit of rough sketching, but nothing definitive. I'm working on inventory for the Usual Suspect Gathering show coming up Labor Day weekend, so it'll be after that before I can spend a lot of time on it.

Any design has tradeoffs, on any object. A top eject sheath would be easier to sheath one-handed, but would not be as ambidextrous, and I feel like it would probably be fractionally slower to deploy. I've given some consideration of an attachment that lets you hang the 'hawk back on the sheath without completely re-sheathing it for after using it as a breaching tool, but haven't had the time to make a move on it yet.

A kydex dump pouch of sorts. . .

Generally on a team breach the breacher steps outta the way. One person emergency breach-I would say if it's a shooter situation the quickest transition to a firearm is to drop the breaching tool-You can always come back and retrieve

I use steel too front, back, and sides. Please don't get me wrong it's not gonna deliver a death blow it was just part of some testing it went through. I have no pics because I was not allowed to film or take pics in the locations I was at. There has been no damage to any of his Hawks or knives I've let be tested and these guys definitely tested them. There is a scratch here and there but nothing to speak of .

Hey I'm with you on the testing only. I figured that a ceramic plate jack up the tip. I'm impressed.

Got a little sloppy while clearing a new trail:
