I want to make a propane forge.I have most of the parts, but cant find the insulation to line my pipe. I live in mid-michigan,between Flint and Saginaw. If anyone knows a local place that would be great. If not any other help would be appreciated. BTW There will be a HARBOR FREIGHT STORE opening in Flint soon. I saw the sign in a store front while X-mas shopping. Thanks for any help. Scott

You also might try "insul wool"

I tried to find a local vendor for a long time down hear, then thanks to anougther local maker I tried a furnace insulation supplier. The had full rolls, and would also sell remanents. I got enough remenats to re-line my forge several times for free.

Good luck

I called up industrial furnace supply type places, and ended up with a 5' x 2' x1" piece for free. Apparently they have scrap and unused portions from various jobs. Try these type places and you may be suprised. Good luck,

Clint

Have a look in the phone book for "insulation and refractories" also check with furnace repair shops and those that repair boilers.

Good Luck.

Scott, i agree with the others, check the yellow pages under refractory or refractories. There is a place over here in Grand rapids that sells the remnants also, i think it is a boxfull for $45. The box probably weighs 40 to 50 lbs and the pieces are good size. I just stopped by there last Friday and bought a box of IFB to redo my ht oven. They might even ship it to you. The place is called Industrial Firebrick, 616 363 4717 or 616 363 0807

There should be someplace over there in the Flint area that has the stuff. If not, let me know and i can pick up a box of the stuff for ya and send it to you.

Thanx for all the replys. Laredo, I will give them a call after the holidays. Merry X-mas to all and to all a sharp knife!!!!!
