So I'm wanting my first emerson, so I think this is the right place to seek help.
There are so many to choose from, and I will be buying this without ever actually holding an emerson.
I don't want: a tanto blade, serations, or any recurve in the blade. I'd like to have an unassuming look with great ergos. I'm leaning heavily toward the gentleman Jim. I love the way it looks and looks as though it would be comfortable in hand.
If any one has any other direction to send me in , or suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
Lastly does the wave take long to adjust to? I love how fast these knives can be deployed.
Thanks for any and all in put.

The Gentleman Jim is really comfortable and easy to carry despite it's fairly large size. I would highly recommend it. I would also recommend a CQC 7a or Mini CQC 7a since you don't like tantos. Also the Horseman is amazing as well and was my first Emerson.

The Journeyman sounds a lot like what you are looking for. It's discontinued but can still be found pretty easy. The CQC-8 or CQC-13 are also some good choices

Obviously the right place to as, as all three suggestions I had in mind have already been put out there: Horseman (amazing knife you must own at some point), Journeyman (a bit big though, but not "tactical looking"), and the Gentleman Jim, which is on my list right now. Handling one borrowed from a friend and absolutely love it.

The 7a is the way to go my friend. Regret parting with mine. Let us know the outcome.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm narrowed down to the mini cqc7a or the gentlemen Jim.
What is the blade length of the above mentioned knives. I really love the mini cqc7a with tan handles. When I clicked and saw that beauty my computer screamed at me to get it.
I still have to decide if I want one with or with out the wave feature. Deploying the knife via the wave feature, does it take practice or will I put in my pocket and deploy easily. To wave or not to wave. I'm almost sold on the mini cqc7 tan handles.
Thanks again.

I must admit, the A-100 is excellence at it's finest! I myself have the full size, but am looking forward to adding the mini as well.

The CQC-7A (no wave) is nice. I prefer "no wave", but you don't have to use it. My next will probably be an A-100 or Mini A-100...

I'm drooling over that one. ^

OP, I am in the vast minority here, but I personally don't care for the 7's grip, the lower bulge combined with near zero fingerguard just doesn't do it for me. The A-100/MiniA-100 on the other hand is great (to my paws).

Hawk45 I'm an emerson newby. I don't want something overly aggressive looking because I'm not a knife fighter. It would be my last resort option, even the non aggressive looking Emerson's look to be more th a capable of doing that.

Ok I'll go back to the drawing board. All the info I get regarding ergos is really appreciated.

OP- Your hand will tell you which Emerson to choose.
TYT and have fun. We'll be here.

This is the one that i'm considering for my 1st Emerson.

Lycosa none of my friends or blades shops have Emerson's for me to hold I'm buying solely off of what I get out of this thread. The a100 looks nice but super straight down the handle, like I'd have no place to put my finger in comfortably.
The mini cqc7a looks like it has some contour to the handle.
Thanks again for your patience and help.

I'll be sure and let you guys know. Should I wait on the exchange to provide one, or do most reputable online stores have them.

I hear ya brother. I don't fight with knives. I don't possess the skill set, and that is why I have a CCW. Belly, recurve and serrations aren't just useful for fighting, they excell at most everyday tasks. I suggest going to a shop or show and handling them. Pictures are nice, but they don't really give you a true life impression of size or more importantly.. feel. Now, if I had to stand and fight to protect a loved one, I'd feel better with something can do do double duty as an EDC blade and last ditch self defense, meaning, something I won't slide forward on and cuts deep. There are many thoughts to this and everyone has their own needs and wants. Great information on here and guys won't steer you wrong. Best of luck.
