help a guy out please, wanting my first emerson

@thefamcnaj---> Don't let the blocky design fool ya :-). Despite the handle being as straight and round as it is, the ergonomics are fantastic. This is in comparison to other knife brands I own as well; including CRK, Strider, Kershaw/ZT, Spyderco, Benchmade and etc. I believe the thickness of the handle combined with it's roundness make for ergo goodness. Not to mention, since the handle is so straight, blocky, and round....... it lends itself to many different hand sizes, from small, to medium, to large, and beyond, because unlike other designs....... it doesn't have any grooves or cutouts that designate where your hands and fingers should lie. Equaling what seems, a knife that feels as if it was made just for "your" hands. No matter the user.

I really wish that were true for me. ^ It isn't, I've tried multiple times.

Sorry to hear that Officer's Match :-(....... but I don't feel sorry for you at all, not one bit, haha. Actually I'm kind of envious of you, since recently seeing posts of your collection. I have a lot of catching up to do, Lol.

I like the A-100 myself.

You should try an 8 or a horseman. Great ergos and a useful blade shape with no tanto or recurve

More 7s for everyone else.

Please, don't speak of 7 anything....... I've been trying to control myself day in and day out, from picking up a 7. Most notably, the HD-7. I would ask for your help during this endeavor, but the last time I did that....... Rolf told me, "It's now or later. Why wait?" Some kind of help that guy was, haha.

I typically like big folders, but I must admit that I greatly prefer the Horseman to the 8 - I had a Journeyman that made me not really love the 8; better ergo's for me.

As much as I've posted about not "getting along" with the 7, I cannot promise you a HD-7SF won't find its way to my mailbox when they make the scene.

Lycosa none of my friends or blades shops have Emerson's for me to hold I'm buying solely off of what I get out of this thread. The a100 looks nice but super straight down the handle, like I'd have no place to put my finger in comfortably.
The mini cqc7a looks like it has some contour to the handle.
Thanks again for your patience and help.

The A100 should fit everyone equally, because it's basically a rectangle, there's no contour to offend a hand whatsoever. The A100 is one of the most comfortable folders I've owned, I think of it as a folding Bushcrafter, it works great.

The Mini CQC-7A might not fit your hand, but that is the same with just about every Emerson model. Also, you'll have to pay top dollar for it from the factory, I've never seen one for sale elsewhere. For any given hand, the mini, standard, or super will or won't work depending on the user. With new Emersons, I buy from a seller with a generous return policy, because it might not "fit" you. For example, I've found all of the CQC-8s, from the smaller Horseman to the gigantic Super, to fit my hand perfectly. However, for my hand, the mini-Commander is just too small and the Commander is barely big enough but the Super Commander fits my hand like it was made for me.

That said, I'll recommend the CQC-8. It's an incredibly capable knife, slim in the pocket, and works well no matter how I pick one up. It really feels like a fixed blade in the hand, the grip is as secure as it gets. Do an image search and see if it calls to you :)

I just got one of the new HD-7s, it's great! Why are you waiting?

OP, at this point pick the Emerson that is most appealing to you right now and fits your budget. Everybody has there own ergo issues, the 7 doesn't work for OM, the Commander isn't really my thing, etc. That said, if you stick with one of the Emersons that looks like it will work for you and meets your criteria, you should be okay. Chances are, once you get an Emerson you will want another one anyway.

I concur.^ :D
My HD7 arrives today, thank you Eric, and this knife will not leave my pocket again.

So I'm wanting my first emerson ... I don't want: a tanto blade, serations, or any recurve in the blade. I'd like to have an unassuming look with great ergos. I'm leaning heavily toward the gentleman Jim. I love the way it looks .... Lastly does the wave take long to adjust to? I love how fast these knives can be deployed.
Thanks for any and all in put.
The Jim has a 3.75 blade and a great design. The Journeyman has a 3.6 blade but it is more utilitarian, a workman's knife. At 3.3 inches is a cqc7a but I don't know if it would be too small for your tastes.
The wave? I love it but had to practice to get the technique down -- and, for me, the technique can vary slightly from knife to knife. However, you mentioned "unassuming" so you may not care for how the wave looks.

OM, you are correct sir -- I just measured my Journeyman blade and it comes in right at 3.75 inches.

If the OP is after a great utilitarian blade, the A-100 is hard to beat. I carry mine from banks to bars to BBQ s with nary a whimper from the crowds. And, it does have a cut-out for your index finger to fit in. It is my actual EDC and a great one at that, IMO.

Well guys thanks for all your input in helping me with choosing my first emerson.
I went a variant of the cqc7 it's black on black with the wave feature. Plain 3.25 inch blade. It will be here tomorrow.
So that means pics tomorrow. I think it will go great with my glock 26 or 19.
