GReat idea, dont kill deer. Then Everyone's
car insurance can go up. But I guess the tree huggers can afford it, 'to save the helpless critters'... urggg.. Helpless critters, then helpless trees.. so on. Try wiping your a** with 100% enviromentally safe, no trees/ plants / animals harmed sponge.

[rant mode]
Ted Nugent said it best when he said all these high and mightly animal rights activists cry pity for the poor and weak animals, but yet drive SUVs that gulf gas that has to explored for and found in areas
that destroy animal habitat. Live in the housing developments that destroy animal habitats and burn electricity that must be generated in some form that must found in the earth. Be it coal, natrual gas, etc.

just my $.02

Still riding your bike with your chive in your pocket?:D

I rode in the snow yesterday....LOL that was fun... scary but fun.

Um... OK. I'm a hunter and I eat what I kill. Mostly... unless it's varmints, inasmuch as a 70 g. softpoint .243 projectile at around 3,500 fps doesn't leave a whole lot of meat on the bone. (We have something like 50,000 moose in the Yukon vs. 25,000 people, and not all of 'em hunters, plus the caribou, sheep, and buffalo.) But BTTT, you might want to consider Cold Steel's Master Hunter: great kraton grip for adverse conditions, terrific high carbon steel (Carbon V) or excellent stainless (AUS8), your choice.

When I see how the short question (basically maybe not so silly but asked in wrong form and wrong place) can evoke such avalanche of indignant, however equally silly answers – I agree with Paracelsus about this Forum mutation in wrong direction he is expressed here.

Please, please turn back to the original thread subject and do not convince newcomer that the silliest thread causes the widest response!

Welcome to the Forums, Easyup!
You see, we have nice and highly civilized community here...

Returning to the original question, if I can dare of course. I have no personal experience with A.G. Russell Deer Hunter. On the other hand SPYDERCO Bill Moran Featherweight knives are my very strong favorites among fixed blades, I really can’t decide with clear cut do I like better drop point or upswept point blade. They have excellent sheaths as well.
However I would advise you to handle Moran before buying because its handle is shaped somewhat differently and might be not for everyone. It is way comfortable for me for ex., however a friend of mine with just slightly bigger palms couldn’t find comfortable grip position at all.
I would tend to go rather with VG-10 than with D-2 for its higher corrosion resistance – IMO pretty essential matter for hunting knife.
Think also about Fällkniven F1 if you would like more conventionally shaped handle and stronger because thicker blade (4,5-mm stock at F1 and 3-mm at Moran).

I would recommend the Kershaw Onion design Echo on the low end . . . fine knife, cruddy sheath. In the mid range I like the Benchmade Outbounder it has a decent sheath, durable handle, and good useable shape. Anything above that and I would go custom . . . you just get more of what YOU want. Small custom fixed blades are a steal and there are some super makers!!

MelancholyMutt:

I told you in that other post that I don't like the chive. It's too unpredictable and likely to shred one's pocket at the very least.

... but he can own one if he wants to.

(Am I beating a dead horse, or what?)

Just a sec here guys the key word here is DEFENSELESS !
I myself would kill an animal if it attacked me but where is the fun in using a gun while hiding in some place and shooting it without it even seeing you? Or like most people here in Belgium do they hunt on pheasants they come feed themselves and those birds are so tame you cannot even shoot them without hitting your own feet half the time. Without human interfearence and hunting the cycle of nature would control it's own populations. If we just hunted to eat and not for sport there would be far less of a problem! I mean how many of you eat eg. elephant or feline stuff ?? I've offered a lot of hunters the possibility to experience the "thrill of the kill" with a knife or sword on an equal opponent and only one as yet wanted to do this. The guys is now one of my best friends. Btw I'm a veganist not a treehugger at all perhaps somewhat with an optimistical view of human ethics mut to me it's like beating up someone 2 feet smaller than you. I just want to know where is the sport in it? Oh yeah like most of you guys stated I'm intollerant sure I don't disagree but are guys that hate eg Nazis, terrorists etc... intollerant also? In a way yes, but when you think about it is your environment that defines what intollerance is. So to meet people that hunt and state my opinion I have to come here 'cause this is where you guys are I'm not looking to start trouble but my first post got attention and reaction please keep it up.

WillyD, You are certainly entitled to your opinion  . . . HOWEVER, I think you will find that this type of post is considered TROLLING and not open discussion. You will be considered a TROLL (By most forumites) when you "hijack" another persons thread by inserting comments that are intended to solicit a reaction WITHOUT contributing toward the information requested by the ORIGINAL poster.
In short, someone asked a legitimate question and you are trying to divert the thread.
If you would like to start a thread to ask your question in an appropriate section of the forum NO ONE would argue your right to do so. BUT, no one appreciates having their thread hijacked in such a way that they do not receive the information they originally asked for.:( Please take that into consideration as you participate . . . just my two cents!;)

Easyup, you might consider a Mora style knife. They are lightweight(weight gets more important to me with each passing year), easy to sharpen in the field, can be had in stainless steel, and reasonable cost. For even more fun, buy a blade and customize a wood or antler handle to fit your hand. ragweedforge.com has knives, blades, and how-to instructions on his site. Good hunting.

WillyD,

So, since you are a veganist, everybody else should follow your lead. I'm sorry, I love meat. God intended us to eat meat. How do I know? He put teeth in my head, not grinding plates. Take your panzy PETA drivel to the Whine and Cheese, and leave us "big men" alone. See ya.

Mike
