help a newbie please

So I have been telling my wife about the interest in DE shaving. She is thinks its awesome and is excited to see the Merkur that Fast is sending me. So, anyway, she saw a starter kit in walmart with a bowl, puck of shave soap, and a board brush and took it upon herself to get it for me. Then got me some pre shave oil, a bottle of witch hazel, some Nivea balm, and some AquaVelva. What a girl.

Good for her! GREAT for you! That is likely the VdH soap, the glycerin stuff is great for making uber lather, I'll include some. The brush is likely a trimmed to shape synthetic boar hair blend which will feel real rough on your face and rather stiff. Good boar brushes are MUCH cheaper than badger brushes and just as good. Nice thing is, you can now use your brush and bowl to practice making lather while you shave with your current set up.

My wife first thought I was being a nerd with this shaving, but one day she walked by as I was shaving, stopped and just watched me skillfully glide a razor blades edge across my face without letting a drop of blood form. She was actually impressed and "told" me it was quite sexy in her own way...;) so do allow extra time while getting ready for work and shaving :D. But make sure you can shave without cutting yourself first!

The Nivea ASB is a great product, I use it every time and much to my chagrin, my wife uses it on her legs. I tried pre shave oil, but didn't like it much, maybe it will work for you. Olive Oil works well and so does Almond Oil. I use my conditioner while in the shower on my beard. What ever method you try, do let your beard rest a couple days before you try the DE and possibly each time you change your routine. Don't forget the styptic pencil!

I'll get everything all cleaned up tomorrow and hopefully off in the mail for you! Oh and that pic I put up is of my razor I am sending you, that's not an internet photo.

Talk to you soon!
