HELP! BF's birthday, hes a collector, Im not- Need gift ideas

Hello, I am completely new to these forums and I need some gift advice on choosing a knife. My boyfriend is a pretty serious collector and i am less than an amateur, though trying to learn. His birthday is coming up and i wanted to get him a new EDC folding knife and ideally i wanted to get the handle engraved with his initials- nothing flashy, just two letters. The biggest problem is that i don't know enough to make a smart purchase or what type of knife would be best for engraving. My boyfriend is about 6'7 and has large hands, so he needs it to be around 9in total length and have a "thicker" or "beefier" handle maybe 0.5-.75in. His current EDC is about this large but frankly is a cheap knife, and I want to get him something with lasting quality and usability. I am hoping to keep this under $200 or less. Below are a few if his specifics. Any knife suggestions and any info about engraving would be amazing, thanks!

blade length: 3.5-4in
handle length: 4-5.5in
handle width:0.5-0.75in
total length: 8-9in
preferably assisted
blade material:154CM stainless steel, S30v/S60v, CPM-S30v, 1095 carbon
-No tanto blades

For engraving, Knifeworks.com will do that for you when you purchase from them. This is a nice idea and he will really appreciate it. Benchmade knives come with free engraving. I would look at the Benchmades and see if any catch your fancy. I would also look at the Spyderco knives. Both of these brands hold their value really well.

Here are a couple of ideas:

ALSO, Buck and Benchmade allow you to design your own:

Kershaw Blur in ELMAX steel...
(It's certainly different, but very similar/comparable to s30v in terms of how it performs and holds up).

It's a "limited" run knife, and they're starting to disappear, but you can still find them a few places for right around $100; made in america, and as a collector he might appreciate the limited factor a bit more then just a standard production blade.

benchmade contigo and adamas. Use some gunzilla to made it almost stainless

These are two very good ideas... I agree skip the engraving.

Gift card, cash or a check.

Let him pick out the knife that he likes.

Now, if you do buy a knife for him - I would not have it engraved. He might want to exchange the knife for some other knife.
