HELP! bk10 or bk7

If you already have a chopper and wish to hold off on getting large Becker, the Tweeners (15,16 & 17) are the way to go. I am partial to the 16 and feel as though it is an excellent knife. Given to rumors of its being discontinued, the BK15 can be had for a bargain compared to its Tweener brothers and it sports a little more blade length. The 16 is awesome as well but I just really like the 15 and find it's blade shape to be very useful when afield and in life generally.

Im with Salty on this one, obviously a wise man. The 16 and 15 are superb choices considering you have a Chopper. They feel great in hand and can do so many tasks effortlessly. If i had to choose between the 7 and the 10, for me probably the "little black dress" of beckers, it would be the 7. But please have a real good look at the "tweeners".

I suppose all of the input can add to the confusion. at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. If you are in a position to hold a few blades beforehand give them a go. (another sweet knife is the BK24).

I guess i should be as i clear as possible my blade kit kit will be a primary fixed blade ie the bk7 or 10,a smaller knife for fine work which right now is a schf32 but i will be getting a bk16 soon, and for a backup primary an schf42, then if the situation allows a chopper. Trust me if knew for sure that i would always be carrying a chopper it would be the bk10

I'd say get the 10........just for the fact its closer looking to a BK2......which everyone knows is one of the most bad ass knives in the world!!!!!

Now that's some sound advice right there!!!

I still say get the BK10. I have the 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 14, 15, and 16. If I had to downsize the 5 or the 7 would be the first to go. I just don't find much need for a 7" blade. I would rather step up to the BK9 over the 7, for it's size it can handle smaller tasks very well and chops like a beast.

A Necker, a Tweener, a mid-large and a large chopper are the only one knife you really need; IOW, get the BK2 :D

I understand your original question but I have to agree with others on the fact that your carrying a parang therefore a smaller blade would be a better choice. I also agree with Salty about the 15. I'll add that if your on a budget go for the 15. You won't be sorry. I don't have the 10 or the 7 but I have the 12 which is between the two although closer to the 10 and I imagine the parang will chop circles around it. Save some bucks and some weight and grab the 15, speaking from an unbiased owner of 3 lol. It'll ride better in a canoe/kayak. The parang, any tweener, and a small or tiny folder will more than likely do ya up for blades. Camping this weekend I brought all my Beckers for folks to play with but I kept a Dex modified Wharncliffe 9, bk15, and a 2in cutco folder for myself and was more than satisfied. I recently got a kayak and I plan on this setup for all my excursions until I find reason to change it.

As long as you carry the Parang, you don't need another chopper. So, my suggestion is the BK-15 or BK-16. Honestly there aren't many things that I do that I need anything stouter than the BK-15, but it is no chopper. I have the Condor Village Parang and Pack Golok, so I am pretty set for mid to large sized choppers.

Another thought. If you want ultimate flexibility, then get the BK-9 and you won't feel bad if you leave the Parang at home or in the car. You already have a small slicer and plan to get the BK-16. You're set.
