HELP! BK9 injured!

Yes. Post pics please.
What kind of metal did you hit? How did you do it?

need a picture -- I doubt hitting a piece of metal is covered under warranty, but it may be savable.

If small enough the Work Sharp will take it out. Just be careful not to heat it up to bad.

sorry guys I don't have a camera but it's a noticeable chip and it hit a machete (don't ask how but it wasn't stupidity at fault) so they both have a big chip, for size comparison it's about 3/4 the thickness of a quarter and it goes a bit past the bevel of the ffg, so it's deep...

Sounds bad...I have the work sharp and feel confident in saying that it won't fix that....hopefully someone here will be able to help you. Best of luck to you.

Um, I'm confused.

You smashed your knife into a machete, and it chipped out all the way up the primary bevel?

So, basically, you cut your BK9 in two with a machete?

Or do you mean the secondary bevel, or the edge?

Primary bevel starts where the flat ends. That transitions into the secondary bevel or edge bevel.

And if you did this on purpose, then no, its not covered under the warranty.

So, elaborate, how did you do this?

sounds like he's saying secondary bevel to me.
I'm curious to know how you hit edge on edge with a machete on accident?
I'm also curious to know where on the blade the chip is, if it's really a chip as opposed to a roll or deformation, etc...

my take would be - sharpen it like normal and eventually it'll sharpen out, OR use a chainsaw file and make it a single tooth serration/fire steel striker. :D

I didn't do it on purpose a friend was swinging nearby (smart) and we accidentally struck each others knife on the back swing, I do mean the secondary bevel I'm not very term savvy yet pertainings to grinds/edges, I guess I'll just try and sharpen it out

Nobody is blaming you. Its just so rare that these knives get damaged that when they do we want to see pics. Pointy broke a BK4 in half at the gathering. It wasnt his fault but stuff happens. So thats why we all want to see pics.

essentially my new 14'' tram and my BK9 both have a sizeable chip in them because they butted heads haha the machete is almost fine after a day of full on woods exploring and trail clearing but Bertha has that scar still :(
