Hello Makers,
Just about completed my first blade, so I can stop lurking now. Made a crude-ish straight razor from a Nicholson file. I used charcoal and a hair dryer for the tang bending and HT and got good results.
Sharpening took most of one day. Still not finished to how I want it in the end... but I'll get to it.
Coincidentally, a martial arts brother of mine is also a knifemaker, (and really poor) dropped by and was wanting to try forging a large drill rod, since he's a stock removal guy. Well, the Wet charcoal and hair dryer didn't get up to forging temps at all... so we quit trying after an hour. ;( The drill rod is about 7/8ths diameter and barely got red.

Of course I _now_ want a propane forge ;-) but need some local Toronto or Ontario help in finding sources for parts and stuff I cannot source.
Are there successful forge builders in my neck of the woods who know where to go for the parts?
THanks in advance for resources.

Your humble neophtye,
Jordan

You should be able to find just about everything you need at home depot for burner parts and a pottery supplier for kaowool and itc100.

Google Ron Reil and look at his site for burner and forge designs. You only need a single burner for forging.

You'll also need a LH propane thread to 3/8" pipe thread adapter from a welding supply shop and a propane regulator.
