help choosing first traditional...

My bad, I probably asked the question improperly. Is there a list of traditional dealers? Russ

I don't have a list of BF traditional dealers, because so many of the BF dealer members sell traditional patterns in addition to modern designs. There is a link to the list of BF dealer members in my signature line.

Both AZ Ranchman and I provided links to the list of BF dealer members.
I am not aware of any BF dealer members based outside the US.

Unless you are prepared to provide a full and complete list of every BF dealer member, please do not recommend where to buy knives.

Dealer recommendations belong in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Forum.

Per Blues post http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/754956-Vendor-Links-Referrals-amp-Endorsements "The exception to the rule above is that you may refer other members to dealers who support bladeforums.com via a "Dealer" membership." I feel my recommendation to the OP for a pinchable knife from a board sponsor was helpful and within the exception. Please school me.

I'll modify that.
When Elliott wrote that we did not have large numbers of dealer members selling traditional knives as we do now.

It's OK to mention where you bought your own knife if that dealer has a BF dealer membership. But Gary and I would rather that when people are looking for a knife, that folks not point at a single source. I just get messy.

Northwoods Indian River Jack would probably be a good place to start, single blade that can be pinched open, 154 cm steel
Otherwise Queen makes quite a few in D2, not sure what size knife your looking for but the Queen mountain man lockback should be something you could pinch open.

I think Steve's suggestion of a Mini Copperlock would be a good starting point for the OP. It's an excellent lockback to carry with you at all time: easy to open, good build/lock-up, decent sized blade but not a boulder in your pocket. I have no objection to CASE's stainless found it more than adequate for tasks expected of a pocket-knife. The Op might then want to get sucked into the Traditional Vortex!:D:D:D

Another idea: GEC's recently released 99 Wall Street pattern in a variety of scales, Got one on order myself so can't comment on build, finish etc. Looks good though, Wharncliffe, Spear or Clip blades. Queen Cutlery makes very nice single blade liner-locks(they have the slipjoint backspring as well so very secure) Teardrop or Copperhead but these are not easy to open (stop chewing those nails!!!)but fine knives with excellent steel.
