Help choosing which blade to take to the beach

It depends on what you do at the beach. If you're going to be swimming and such I'd go with a cheap one. If you're like me and and might just get your legs wet then whatever you want. I carry a military and a sak when I'm on the beach. I've carried carbon steel fixed blades too. Just keep em dry and you'll be fine.

Don't think I ever put much thought into it before, just grabbed something small and inexpensive. I spend more time thinking about how I can stuff as much beer and food possible into my cooler.

I tend to favor what is easiest to clean because sand is so...sandy. So to me, a H1 fixed blade is a great marine use knife.

From my experience, frame locks are generally the easiest to clean of folders when sand is involved, and everything else is generally more of a pain. In most instances, the action of the knife is going to get gritty if it's buried or used to dig in the sand. In the category of ease of basic and detailed cleaning, the open frame lock is hard to beat. The compression lock on the PM2 is right there with it. Both styles can also be hit with a compressed blast cleaner pretty easily, but I personally find that once sand gets into the pivot/washer areas that the knife needs a full strip and cleaning to get back to 100% factory smoothness as the sand tends to be hard to get out.

If rust is a huge factor, H1 seems to be hard to beat. But all of the steels you mentioned have corrosion resistance in which if you clean them properly after saltwater usage, you should not have any issue. If you are really worried about rust, treat them with a protective coating before usage, although this is not necessary.

At least based on my simple-minded intellect, you are asking all of the right questions my friend :)
(and depending what beach, sometimes also how you can consume the beer without it actually appearing to be beer!)

Washing the knife in tap water after a day at the beach is a must for me. Dry it afterwards. If you have an air duster blow out debris like sand. I've found the pivot area (and inner of Spydie hole) particularly susceptible to rust spots. I can remove most rust spots by rubbing it out or with Flitz.

The one I like best and use most for beach, humidity and sweat is the CRKT Eros (K455TXP) which is a 3" blade flipper with titanium frame lock weighing 1.5 ounces.

Biggest one ya got. We got great whites now in daytona and jax.;)

H1 all the way. If you aren't into making sure knife is rinsed and dried every day.........

Take something stainless with not a whole lot of moving parts, Your spydercos have compression locks so if you get sand in them they might not operate well. Sand is a real killer on pocket knives, at least for the ones I have experience with.

this.

Your probably already there by now soaking up the sun, but for future info and others, I am heading there myself. Plan on using a Spyderco Tanacious in green. Not too big or too small for most jobs. I have already used this in salt water several times already, at the end of the day I just rinsed it out good with dish soap and water and gave it the paper towel dry and a few good lung blows for anything hiding. No problems, has plenty of space in between the handles to get the sand out and it is cheap enough if you loose it that you won't cry over it, just get another one.

Edit:
Oops. Didn't notice the dates of the earlier posts. Oh, well, I'll leave this here. Might be good info for someone else... ;)

Yeah I'm looking at the dragon fly

The Dragonfly Salt is a great choice. Very nice little knife and no issues with rust because of the FRN handle and H1 steel. Small enough for easy carry when wearing shorts or trunks. Perfect knife for that activity, IMHO.

I live in Florida and spend countless days a year at the beach. I take whatever I feel like taking, as nothing will rust away in a day. And like every other time you put a knife in your pocket or bag, don't lose it. The beach doesn't swallow things, especially large heavy things. Jewelry is one thing, knives shouldn't have to be kept home to be kept safe. Be smart. And please, don't take glass bottles on the beach. Have fun dude.

1095 ESEE Candiru... Been to the beach a bunch, never even a speck of rust.

I live near the Atlantic and spend a lot of time on the beach in and around salt water and sand. I also fish and canoe in brackish water marshes...I carry my Spyderco Pacific Salt all the time. Its light, flat and the blade is very useful...The zero corrosion is super good. I don't even bother to flush it with fresh water after being in ocean water.
