Well, I just got my Small Sebbie today, and my boss happened to see it.

He's from Australia, and in all other regards quite the manly man (drives a Boxster, wears an Omega). But he took one look and said "My god, Jon, are you going to kill someone?"

This is the SMALL sebenza. 2.87" blade. I'm glad I just happened to swap out the 710!!! (no Camillus MAXX, either...)

Also, he seems to be labouring under the impression that all locking knives are "Fighting Knives" because it doesn't collapse when you stab someone. Well, I replied, it also doesn't fold on you when you cut an apple.

He wasn't convinced.

Perhaps I should give him a small, inexpensive one as a gift.

I might make a knife knut yet.

I'm thinking someone in the $40-60 range, something kind of simple and yet flashy, but not threatening at all, but it has to "lock". And it has to be "manly". :p

If I could get a couple of pointers, I'd appreciate it.

Maybe something in the CRKT, Spyderco range? I'm thinking of the Salsa, but it's a little too "colourful"... something like the old CRKT S2...

I think I might stay away from the "black blades of death" a la Emersons ;)

I dunno.

Thanks, all.

Dave, you took the words right out of my mouth....the letters right out of my fingers....whatever. EDC looks good for that price range:)

The CRKT M11 seems to be a decent gent's knife; light, durable, good looking, and a nice utility blade.

Benchmade's Pardue Big Spender might be another option.

Mike

Get him a CRKT Mirage and a fifth of decent whiskey. It's as good as a BM705 to a non-knife guy and as nice a knife as he'd appreciate. Next day ask him how many knife-haters ever bought him whiskey. - Lee

Hey Guys..

How about a Pocket Hobbit, or maybe a MT Halo III or UltraTech,or a Sifu, or possibly a MOD!

That'll really get his eyes rolling...

I wouldn't buy him anything. He'll probably cut himself and blame you for it, and before you know it,,you'll be standing in line at Kinkos getting stacks of resumes copied....

If ya do get him something,, how about a Chive or a Scallion...Decent blades and they got a gadget factor that can't be beat..

Just my 0.02

ttyle

Eric....

Give him a book on knives to go with it. Might take him beyond looking at only the physical aspect of knives.

I've given 2 diffrent people (Men) chives
and they were the same ! now they are very different
now the have a cool little sharp knife ( and they always
tell me) boy that sucker is sharp ;)

All,

Thanks so much for the tips!

- I'd like to get something he can CARRY
- and he's no Becker or Busse carrying type -- not all Aussies are Croc Dundee ;)

I had completely forgotten about the Chive and the Camillus EDC.

Either one will be just right... I'm leaning toward the Chive just because it's so tiny, but toward the EDC because it's cooler.

Both have pocket clips, right?

Thanks, everyone. Now I just gotta decide.

I'll keep you updated as to what happens.

-Jon

BTW, Normark: I have a reason that makes me not too worried about that particular eventuality; I can't talk about it now, but I might later. ;)

Here's another vote for the EDC. I have EDCs and Chives, and would definitely do the EDC. The Chive is small enough that it's very hard for me to open without cutting myself. The EDC is very sheeple friendly and outrageously handy.

=======================================

I don't see the connection. You can BUY an attitude?

Email me for a kershaw scallion - they're fun to play with, and decently sharp.

I betcha he has kitchen knives that are duller than Al Gore, so besides getting him a swell knife (I like my CRKT S-2 frame-lock with titanium frame!), show him how to sharpen those dull knives !

If there were many in Austaralia like Crocodile Dundee they would still have their semi autos and pump guns. Now they are about to lose their handguns. Australia, they can keep it.

mnblade,my sentiments exactly.Rosie O'Donnell could buy a boxster and wear an omega also,does that make........uh,wait a minute,damn she is a little macho,maybe we're on to something here!
