Help dating a Boker USA fixed blade please - SOLVED!!!

Yes it is page 12, I really think the knives you have found are the product of a employee taking and finishing knives at home, probably took stock during one of the many traditional periods, the salesman pre production prototype is a real long shot, I have found with Boker that people really misrepresent the brand, especially on the auction sites, you really need to do your homework and look at all the details. I've seen many many times and I bet if I looked I could find one right now someone selling the currant economy line plus or magnum brands as "vintage" Boker, and the outsourced "made in Germany" ones are a whole other story. I've never seen a Boker with the crude engraving pen etch, their etches are very neat, the branches on the tree and base of the trunk is one way of dating early Bokers so I can't see them being so sloppy. I don't think it's a knockoff China counterfeit though there are some out there but mostly with more modern Bokers, if I was placing bets I'd go with the employee taking stock, the sheath is correct, the handle is correct, the pommel is correct for the civilian model, but the markings not so much.

Thanks Pete! I had previously thought that employee take home knives were always left sterile to prevent detection and avoid federal charges of copyright theft, but I see your point.

I'll keep researching the salesman sample angle....have had a few hits but no pictures yet.

Thanks again!

Well it's been over 30 years since Boker USA has produced any knives so maybe the statute of limitations has past and the employee decided to get rid of his lot or maybe a son or grandson found a box of stuff and decided to get creative? I mean Leslie Charles Waffen, who had worked at the National Archives for 40 years, acknowledged stealing thousands of sound recordings from the archive and selling them on eBay, I don't put much past someone trying to make a quick buck( our jails aren't filled with smart criminals). I do think the knife is 100% Boker parts, but I don't collect their fixed blades most of the things I've collected is on their traditional slip joints. Keep us posted on what you find, if I find anything else I'll post it here, it's a nice knife, you going to use it or just keep it as a collectors piece?

Pete

Thanks Pete! I was going to use it but it's unsharpened so I'll probably just keep it that way for now till I know for sure...it's just so "vintage" and except for that detail finish on the back, it reminds me of our Schrade Waldens we lost in the fire.

Finally, the mystery solved!!!! :):):)

"The knife and sheath are the Stagbrand pattern made by the George Schrade Knife Co. Bridgeport Ct.
Boker bought the company in 1956 and liquidated in 1958 after the Federal Switchblade Act. Your knife was made between those dates."

Here is a picture of a knife I found in my wife's garage. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with dating it.

Sorry for the terrible quality of picutures, but the numbers at the bottom of the blade are 163.

I forgot to post my 2nd 155 that I cleaned up to use as a walk around knife at the farm. It cleaned up nice with a Diet Coke blade soak plus it needed file work on the guard that was mangled. Add a $24 sheath from the big auction site and it's good to go.

Crummy indoor pic....sorry.

Well, Boker emailed me back and said my email was shown to the president of the company (who has been there over 30 years) and he said Boker never marked their blades that way. Since I thought the knife was 35-40 years old, that info confirmed it is as least 30+ years old. I thanked them and attached pix of 3 Boker USA knives off ebay auctions which all had the same exact etch so we will see if that jogs someone's memory at Boker.

I already posted 2 of the examples, here's the third I had found in about 30 min of searching Ebay past auctions.

Anybody know the production dates of the Boker USA knives?
